Q: What is the Breguet Type XX – XXI – XXII 39mm Full Set Watch?
A: It’s a Swiss‑made, automatic flyback chronograph from Breguet’s historic aviation family. This example features a robust 39mm stainless‑steel case and bracelet and is delivered as a complete set with box, certificate, hang tag and extra links.

Q: What is a flyback chronograph and how do I use it?
A: A flyback lets you reset and restart the running chronograph with a single press (typically the lower pusher), ideal for rapid timing intervals. Standard operation is start/stop with the upper pusher and reset with the lower pusher. Avoid operating the pushers under water or if you suspect moisture inside the watch.

Q: Is it water‑resistant and can I swim with it?
A: Many Type XX models were originally rated for everyday water resistance, but on vintage/pre‑owned watches this cannot be guaranteed. We recommend avoiding swimming or showering unless the seals have been replaced and the watch pressure‑tested by a qualified watchmaker.

Q: What movement does it use and what is the typical power reserve?
A: It uses an automatic mechanical chronograph movement. Typical power reserves for this family are around 40–50 hours; if the watch has stopped, give it a gentle manual wind and wear regularly to keep it running. Keep it away from strong magnets to maintain accuracy.

Q: Will the 39mm size fit my wrist and can the bracelet be adjusted?
A: 39mm offers a classic, versatile presence suitable for many wrists. The bracelet fits up to approximately 19.5cm and this set includes three extra links. We can size the bracelet before dispatch—share your wrist measurement and we’ll advise.

Q: What is included with this Full Set and is it authentic?
A: This watch comes with its box, certificate, hang tag and three extra links. A Retro Tale verifies authenticity for every item and provides a 12‑month mechanical guarantee, insured DHL shipping, and 0% customs fees for EU buyers.

Q: How often should I service a Breguet Type XX chronograph?
A: Mechanical chronographs typically benefit from servicing every 5–10 years, or sooner if you notice issues such as poor timekeeping, moisture, or stiff pushers. Always use a watchmaker experienced with vintage/modern chronographs.

Q: What are the differences between Type XX, XXI and XXII?
A: The Type XX is the classic aviation‑style flyback chronograph (often around 39–40mm). The Type XXI is larger and typically features a central minutes counter. The Type XXII introduced high‑frequency technology for enhanced precision. This particular piece is the 39mm size associated with the Type XX lineage.

Q: Can I swap the bracelet for a leather strap?
A: Yes—many Type XX models accept quality leather straps for a more vintage or dress look. Lug widths vary by reference; contact us and we’ll confirm compatibility and suggest suitable strap options.

Q: How should I care for and clean the watch?
A: Wipe the case and bracelet with a soft microfibre cloth and avoid abrasive cleaners or chemicals. Keep the watch away from strong magnets and extreme temperatures, and store it dry. If you see condensation under the crystal, stop wearing the watch and have it checked promptly.
