Q: What are the dimensions of the Chanel Première M watch?
A: The classic Première case is an elegant octagonal rectangle measuring approximately 26 × 20 mm, with a black lacquered dial and an onyx‑set crown. Our listing notes a 20 mm case width, which aligns with the typical M size profile.

Q: What does the “M” size mean, and will this watch fit me?
A: Vintage Première bracelet lengths were sold in fixed sizes (S, M, L, XL). “M” denotes a medium factory length. This specific piece is currently sized to fit a wrist up to about 14 cm, as noted on this page. Because vintage lengths vary slightly from modern guides and this model uses an interlaced chain, we recommend measuring your wrist and contacting us if you’re close to the limit.

Q: Can the bracelet be adjusted if it’s too tight or too loose?
A: Unlike modern link bracelets, the vintage interwoven chain is effectively a fixed length. Minor sizing changes may be possible through a specialist by adding or removing links and re‑weaving the leather, or by sourcing a different‑size vintage bracelet. This is not a DIY task and should be done by an experienced watchmaker or atelier.

Q: What movement does it use—do I need to wind it?
A: Most Première models, including this vintage example, are powered by a high‑precision Swiss quartz movement. There is no winding; a button cell battery powers the watch. Typical battery life ranges from about 2 to 7 years depending on use; replace a stopped battery promptly to avoid leakage.

Q: Is it water‑resistant—can I shower or swim with it?
A: Historically, Première watches are rated to 30 m, which is suitable for everyday splashes and rain but not for swimming, showering, or submersion. Because this is a vintage piece with an interlaced leather bracelet, we strongly advise keeping it dry and having gaskets checked during battery changes.

Q: How should I care for the gold‑plated case and interlaced leather chain?
A: Wipe the case and chain gently with a soft, lint‑free cloth after wear. Avoid abrasives, metal polish, ultrasonic cleaners, and chemicals that can thin gold plating. Keep the leather ribbon away from water, perfumes, and lotions; clean it lightly with a dry cloth and allow it to air out after wear. Store the watch in a cool, dry place, ideally laid flat to avoid kinking the chain.

Q: Can the black leather ribbon be replaced in future?
A: Yes—skilled specialists can replace and re‑weave the leather ribbon. This is delicate work and should be entrusted to an experienced workshop familiar with Chanel’s interlaced bracelets. We’re happy to advise on reputable options.

Q: What makes the Première design iconic?
A: Created in 1987 as Chanel’s first women’s watch, the Première’s octagonal case echoes the N°5 perfume bottle stopper and Place Vendôme. The chain bracelet interlaced with leather references Chanel’s classic handbag strap, giving it the look and feel of jewellery on the wrist.

Q: What accessories are included with this item?
A: This listing specifies no accessories are included. Everything supplied is always listed under the Accessories section; if it isn’t listed there, it is not included.

Q: How do you authenticate this watch?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale undergoes multi‑point inspection by our in‑house experts, assessing the dial print and finishing, case construction and engravings, crown and clasp details, bracelet quality, and the movement. We only sell authentic pieces and are happy to provide additional photos or details on request.
