Q: What typically fits inside the Chloé Medium Paddington Bag?
A: With measurements of approximately 36 x 20 x 18 cm, it is well suited to daily essentials such as a long wallet, phone, keys, sunglasses case, a small cosmetics pouch and a compact water bottle. It may also fit a small tablet, but it is not the best choice for most laptops. Please refer to the measurements on this page for the clearest sense of capacity.

Q: Do I need to unlock the padlock every time I open the bag?
A: No. This piece has a top zip closure, so the bag can be opened and closed easily without using the padlock each time. The oversized lock is the Paddington's signature detail, and it can be worn as both a functional and decorative feature.

Q: Is the Paddington considered a heavy bag?
A: Yes, this is one of the most commonly discussed points about vintage Paddington bags. The chunky hardware and oversized lock give the style its iconic look, but they also make it feel heavier than many soft leather day bags, especially once packed.

Q: Can this bag be carried on the shoulder?
A: This bag has dual rolled handles and no shoulder strap. With a handle measurement of 23 cm, it may sit on the shoulder for some, but the Paddington is generally known for a close shoulder fit and is often carried by hand or in the crook of the arm.

Q: Does this specific bag come with a shoulder strap?
A: No. There is no shoulder strap listed in the product data for this item. It is designed with dual rolled top handles.

Q: What is included with this bag?
A: The product information for this piece lists a dust bag, padlock and key. If an item is not mentioned in the product information, it should not be assumed to be included.

Q: What condition is this bag in?
A: According to the product data, the overall condition is Very Good. There is scuffing on the piping and corners, light trace of use inside, and scratches and tarnish on the hardware. We recommend reviewing all photos alongside the condition notes when buying vintage.

Q: How should I care for a vintage leather Paddington bag?
A: Store it in a cool, dry place, ideally in its dust bag, and keep it lightly stuffed so it holds its shape. Avoid overloading it, rubbing it against rough surfaces, and exposing it to moisture, direct heat or prolonged sunlight. Use a soft cloth for light surface cleaning and take extra care around the hardware to help minimise further scratching or tarnish.

Q: How do you authenticate a vintage Chloé Paddington?
A: At A Retro Tale, every item is checked by in-house experts. For Paddington bags, authentication typically considers the quality and feel of the leather, stitching, hardware, padlock details, branding and interior construction, alongside other model-specific markers. As with many vintage Chloé bags, authentication is never based on one detail alone.
