Christian DiorLarge Cannage Patent Shopping Tote Bag

Q: What typically fits in this Large Cannage Patent Shopping Tote?
A: With approximate measurements of 36 × 28 × 14 cm, it comfortably fits A4 documents, a large wallet, phone, make-up pouch, a 500 ml water bottle and daily essentials. It will fit most 13-inch laptops and some slim 14-inch models depending on the sleeve. Please check your device measurements against the bag’s interior for certainty.

Q: Is it comfortable to carry on the shoulder?
A: Yes. The handle drop is about 22 cm, which allows most people to carry it on the shoulder or in the hand with ease. The dual handles with chain detail add a touch of shine while remaining practical for daily use.

Q: How secure is the opening?
A: The tote has an open top with a magnetic snap closure, providing quick access while offering light security. For valuables, we recommend using the interior zip pocket or a small zipped pouch.

Q: Is patent leather prone to colour transfer and how can I minimise it?
A: Patent leather can attract dye from dark fabrics (for example, denim) and other coloured materials. Minimise risk by avoiding prolonged rubbing against dark clothing, keeping the surface clean and dry, and storing the bag so it is not pressed against other items. Use a breathable dust bag, keep it away from heat/humidity, and avoid plastic covers that can trap moisture.

Q: How should I clean and care for the patent leather?
A: Wipe gently with a soft, slightly damp microfibre cloth and dry immediately. Avoid harsh chemicals, acetone or alcohol-based products. If deeper cleaning is needed, use a cleaner specifically made for patent leather and test on a discreet area first. Persistent colour transfer or stickiness should be assessed by a professional leather care specialist.

Q: The photos mention colour transfer on this piece—can it be removed?
A: Colour transfer on patent leather is often difficult and sometimes impossible to remove completely. A professional leather spa may improve the appearance, but results cannot be guaranteed. Please review the imagery and condition notes to ensure you are happy with the current patina.

Q: Where is the Dior date code and what does it indicate?
A: On many Dior totes, the date code is found on or behind the interior leather tag, often near or beneath the zip pocket. The combination of letters and numbers typically indicates factory and production timing, but placement and format vary by era and style. Some newer Dior bags also include embedded microchips. A date code alone does not confirm authenticity.

Q: How does A Retro Tale authenticate this bag?
A: Every item is examined by our in-house experts using multi-point checks across materials, stitching, hardware, stamps, logos, lining, and date codes, supplemented by specialist tools and references. We stand behind the authenticity of all items we sell and are happy to provide further details on request.

Q: What is included with this item?
A: According to the product information, no additional items are included. Everything that comes with the bag is always listed on this page—if you need clarification, please contact us.

Q: Is the bag water resistant?
A: Patent leather resists light surface moisture, but the bag is not waterproof. Avoid heavy rain and prolonged exposure to water. If it gets wet, blot gently with a soft cloth and allow it to air dry away from direct heat or sunlight.
