GivenchyChain Necklace

Q: How does the 40 cm length fit on the neck?
A: 40 cm (about 16 inches) usually sits at the base of the neck and reads as a short necklace or choker on many wearers. Fit depends on individual neck size; if you prefer a looser drape, measure your neck and add 1–2 cm for comfort.

Q: Is the length adjustable?
A: This piece is listed at 40 cm. If an extender or extra links were included, they would be stated in the product information. If you need a little extra length, a simple extender can be added by a jeweller without altering the original design.

Q: What is the metal and finish?
A: It is a vintage gold‑tone plated fashion necklace. Many vintage Givenchy pieces use high‑quality plating over a base metal rather than solid precious metal. Unless a precious‑metal hallmark is shown, you should treat it as plated fashion jewellery.

Q: How should I care for a gold‑plated necklace?
A: Remove before showering, swimming, exercising, or applying perfume, lotions and hairspray. Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth after wear to remove skin oils, and store it separately in a soft pouch to minimise scratches. Avoid abrasive cloths and chemical jewellery dips.

Q: Can I wear it in the shower or at the gym?
A: It’s best not to. Water, steam, sweat and soaps can accelerate wear of gold plating and dull the finish over time. Keep it dry and put it on last when getting ready.

Q: I have sensitive skin. Is this nickel‑free?
A: Composition can vary on vintage fashion jewellery and nickel content is not guaranteed. If you are nickel‑sensitive, avoid prolonged contact, try short trial wears, and keep the piece clean and dry. You can also wear it over clothing or use a clear barrier on contact areas if needed.

Q: What hallmarks should I expect on vintage Givenchy jewellery?
A: Common signatures include Givenchy, GIVENCHY Paris, or Givenchy Paris New York, often on an oval plaque near the clasp. Some late‑1970s pieces are date‑stamped. Signatures vary by era and model, so not every piece carries the same mark.

Q: How is authenticity assured?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale is carefully inspected and authenticated by our in‑house experts. If you would like added peace of mind, a third‑party digital certificate can be purchased separately; details are available on our site.

Q: Can this necklace be replated or repaired in future?
A: Yes—professional jewellers offer gold replating and light restoration for plated jewellery. Results and cost depend on the base metal and condition, so we recommend consulting a specialist if you plan to replate after years of wear.

Q: How can I layer this curb chain?
A: Use it as the shortest layer and add one or two longer chains with at least 5 cm spacing (for example, 40 cm with 45–50 cm). Varying lengths helps avoid tangling and gives a balanced look.

Q: What is included with this item?
A: Everything included is listed under product information. If a branded box, dust bag, or certificate is not listed there, it is not included. Please contact us if you would like us to confirm current inclusions.

Q: What does Very Good Condition mean for this piece?
A: Expect light traces of use consistent with age and careful wear. For this necklace, the metal is shiny with light surface scratches visible on close inspection; please review the photos and condition notes for the exact state.
