HermèsClou de Selle Pin Brooch

Q: What is the Hermès Clou de Selle motif?
A: Clou de Selle refers to one of Hermès’ most recognisable house signatures, inspired by the saddle nail from the brand’s equestrian heritage. It gives this brooch a distinctly Hermès look while remaining understated and easy to wear.

Q: What are the measurements of this brooch?
A: This piece measures approximately 7 cm in height, 1 cm in width and 0.5 cm in depth. Its slim, elongated shape makes it a refined accent rather than an oversized statement brooch.

Q: How can this brooch be worn?
A: It can be styled on a blazer lapel, coat, scarf, knitwear, hat or dress for a polished vintage finish. Its long pin shape also works well for adding a subtle equestrian-inspired detail to tailored looks.

Q: Can it be used to secure a scarf?
A: Yes, this style is often worn on scarves as well as jackets. For best results, use it on fabrics with enough structure to support the pin comfortably and always fasten it carefully before wearing.

Q: Is it suitable for delicate fabrics?
A: As with most brooches, extra care is recommended on very delicate materials such as fine silk, chiffon or open knits, as the pin will create a puncture point. Structured fabrics like wool, cashmere blends, denim or suiting usually provide the most secure hold.

Q: What condition is this brooch in?
A: It is listed in Very Good Condition. The hardware remains shiny with light scratches, which is consistent with gentle vintage wear and does not detract from its overall elegant appearance.

Q: What is it made from?
A: According to the product information, this brooch is made from gold-tone metal and features a pin closure. It is a vintage fashion jewellery piece made in France.

Q: How should I care for and store it?
A: To help preserve the finish, avoid direct contact with perfume, cosmetics, salt water and harsh cleaning products. After wear, wipe it gently with a soft dry cloth and store it separately in a dry place away from humidity, heat and friction from other jewellery.

Q: Does it come with any original box or other items?
A: Any included items are noted in the product information. For this piece, no additional items are included.

Q: How is authenticity handled for a vintage Hermès brooch?
A: At A Retro Tale, pre-owned pieces are reviewed by specialists before sale. Hermès also states that it does not verify items purchased outside its official points of sale, so authentication for second-hand items is typically handled by trusted resale experts.
