Louis VuittonMonogram Cartouchière PM Bag

Q: What fits inside the Louis Vuitton Monogram Cartouchière PM?
A: The PM is the small size and typically carries daily essentials: smartphone, compact wallet or cardholder, keys, lipstick, slim sunglasses in a soft sleeve and a small cosmetics pouch. A slim A6–A5 notebook can often fit, but a long continental wallet, water bottle or most tablets are usually too bulky. Capacity can vary slightly by production year—please refer to the Measurements on this page or contact us for tailored fit advice for this exact piece.

Q: Will it fit a tablet or e‑reader?
A: Compact e‑readers may fit depending on their case, but full‑size tablets generally do not in the PM. For certainty, compare your device’s dimensions with the Measurements listed or ask us to check the fit against this specific bag.

Q: Is the strap adjustable and can I wear it crossbody?
A: Yes—the Cartouchière usually features an adjustable shoulder strap with buckle holes, suitable for shoulder or high crossbody wear. We’ll list the strap drop under Measurements—if anything is missing, just ask and we’ll measure/confirm for you. On most wearers, the PM sits relatively high when worn crossbody.

Q: How secure is the closure and what is the interior layout?
A: This model typically has a front flap with a buckle‑style strap for secure everyday use. Interiors commonly feature two divided compartments; some editions include small slip pockets. Layout can vary by era—please review our photos and description for the exact configuration of this piece.

Q: What materials is it made from?
A: The Cartouchière is commonly crafted in Monogram coated canvas with natural cowhide (vachetta) leather trim and gold‑tone hardware. Linings vary by era and may be cross‑grain leather or textile. Our listing specifies the exact materials and finish for this item.

Q: How should I care for Monogram canvas and vachetta leather?
A: Coated canvas is durable—wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth and avoid harsh cleaners. Vachetta is untreated, will develop a patina, and is sensitive to moisture and oils; avoid rain and colour transfer from dark denim. If conditioning the leather, use a high‑quality neutral product very sparingly and test first on a discreet area. Store the bag lightly stuffed, upright, in a breathable dust bag, and avoid overfilling to preserve its shape.

Q: Will the buckle or strap mark the leather?
A: With regular use, light impressions can develop where the buckle/strap contacts the flap or trim. To minimise marks, avoid over‑tightening the strap, store the bag with the flap unfastened or protected with a soft cloth, and keep hardware from rubbing directly against the leather when stored.

Q: Is the Cartouchière PM still produced? What do PM/MM/GM mean?
A: The Cartouchière is a vintage Louis Vuitton style and is generally discontinued; availability today is primarily via the pre‑loved market. PM, MM and GM refer to small, medium and large sizes respectively. If you’re seeking a specific size or configuration, we’re happy to help you compare options.

Q: Where are the brand markings and date codes located?
A: Authentic LV bags feature an interior heat‑stamp (e.g., “LOUIS VUITTON Paris” and “Made in [country]”). Vintage pieces like the Cartouchière typically include a date code, often on a small leather tab inside one of the compartments or along an interior seam. From around 2021 LV transitioned to embedded microchips instead of visible date codes. Placement and format vary by era—contact us for close‑up photos of this item.

Q: What accessories are included and how do you authenticate?
A: Any included items (e.g., dust bag, box) are listed under “Accessories.” If something isn’t mentioned there, it isn’t included—feel free to ask us to confirm. Every item at A Retro Tale undergoes rigorous, multi‑point authentication by our in‑house experts, assessing materials, stitching, hardware, stamps and date code/microchip. We stand behind the authenticity of all items we sell.
