Q: What is the Rolex Lady-Datejust Ref. 79174 (2004)?
A: It’s a classic 26mm Lady-Datejust featuring a stainless steel Oyster case, 18k white gold fluted bezel, white dial with Roman numerals, date display with Cyclops magnifier, and an automatic self‑winding movement on a stainless steel Jubilee bracelet. Swiss‑made and produced in 2004, it offers an elegant, petite profile ideal for refined everyday wear and occasions.

Q: Which movement does this 2004 Ref. 79174 typically use?
A: Most 2000s Lady‑Datejust 26mm models house the Rolex Calibre 2235—an automatic, COSC‑certified movement with a quickset date and a power reserve of around 48 hours. Exact calibre can vary by example; we can confirm the movement in this specific watch on request.

Q: Is it water‑resistant, and can I swim with it?
A: The Oyster case was originally rated to 100 metres, but water resistance on vintage watches is not guaranteed without recent servicing and pressure testing. Avoid swimming or showering unless the watch has been freshly re‑sealed and tested by an authorised watchmaker. Always ensure the crown is fully screwed down before any exposure to moisture.

Q: How do I set the time and date on a Lady‑Datejust 26mm?
A: Unscrew the crown anti‑clockwise. Position 1: wind (about 20–30 turns if stopped). Position 2: quickset the date. Position 3: set the time. Avoid changing the date between approximately 8pm and 2am. When finished, push the crown in and screw it down firmly to maintain water resistance.

Q: Does this reference have a sapphire crystal and Cyclops magnifier?
A: Most early‑2000s Lady‑Datejust models, including the 79174, feature a scratch‑resistant sapphire crystal with the Cyclops date magnifier. If you’d like us to confirm the crystal type on this individual watch, please ask.

Q: Will the 26mm size suit my wrist, and is it unisex?
A: The 26mm case offers a petite, vintage‑classic presence best suited to small wrists and those who prefer a discreet look. Historically marketed as a ladies’ size, it can be worn unisex depending on style preference.

Q: What wrist size will the bracelet fit, and can it be resized?
A: This bracelet currently fits a wrist up to approximately 15.5 cm. We can assist with sizing, and additional links can often be sourced subject to availability and potential cost. If preferred, we can advise on compatible strap options for this model.

Q: What is included with this watch, and is it authentic?
A: As noted, it is delivered with no accessories (no original box or papers unless stated otherwise). A Retro Tale specialises in authentic luxury vintage and thoroughly inspects and authenticates every item. Our watches come with a 12‑month mechanical guarantee for your peace of mind.

Q: How can I verify the exact reference and production year?
A: The reference number is typically engraved between the lugs at 12 o’clock and the serial number at 6 o’clock (bracelet removal is required). We’re happy to help verify these details and provide additional photos or information on request. This example is listed as from 2004.

Q: What accuracy and service interval should I expect from a Lady‑Datejust 26mm?
A: A well‑maintained vintage Rolex should keep good time, though performance varies with age and service history. Rolex and independent specialists generally recommend servicing every 5–10 years, or sooner if you notice timekeeping issues or any moisture. Keep the watch away from strong magnets and have gaskets checked periodically.

Q: Is the 26mm Lady‑Datejust discontinued, and how does it compare to the 28mm?
A: Rolex later transitioned the Lady‑Datejust from 26mm to 28mm, offering a slightly larger dial and more modern wrist presence. The 26mm wears smaller and has a timeless vintage elegance; choice comes down to wrist size and style preference.
