Q: What typically fits inside the Chanel Classic Medium Double Flap Bag?
A: This medium size is well suited to daily essentials such as a phone, card holder or compact wallet, keys, lipstick, and a few small personal items. Because this is a double flap design, the interior is more structured than it looks from the outside, so bulkier items may reduce usable space. Please refer to the Measurements on this page for the exact size of this bag: 26 x 16 x 7 cm.

Q: Can this bag be worn on the shoulder or crossbody?
A: This bag features the classic leather-interwoven chain strap and can usually be worn short on the shoulder with the chain doubled, or longer with the chain single. For this specific item, the strap measurements are approximately 23/40 cm. On most adults, the medium classic flap is primarily a shoulder bag rather than a true crossbody, though fit will vary depending on height and styling preference.

Q: What does “double flap” mean?
A: A double flap bag has both the main outer flap and an additional inner flap. This signature Chanel construction helps the bag keep its structure and gives it the classic layered interior layout collectors look for. It also adds a little weight and means the inside can feel more compact than a single-flap bag of similar exterior size.

Q: Is the medium size a good everyday option?
A: Yes. The Chanel Medium Classic Double Flap is widely considered one of the most versatile sizes in the range because it balances elegance with practical day-to-evening capacity. It is ideal if you carry essentials rather than larger items such as a water bottle, tablet, or full-size purse.

Q: What does the serial number indicate on this bag?
A: This bag has a 5-series serial number, and according to the product data this places production in the 1997-1999 period. On vintage Chanel bags, the serial number helps indicate the production era, but authentication should always consider the full bag rather than the number alone.

Q: What is included with this item?
A: The product information lists a serial number tag. If any additional inclusions such as an authenticity card, dust bag, or box are not listed in the product information, they should not be assumed to be included.

Q: What condition is this bag in?
A: This bag is listed in Very Good Condition with light traces of use. The exterior and interior are both noted as very good with light traces of use, and the hardware is described as shiny with light scratches. As with all vintage Chanel bags, gentle signs of age and wear are normal and part of the character of the piece.

Q: How should I care for and store a vintage Chanel double flap bag?
A: Store it upright in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and humidity. Keep the bag lightly stuffed with soft, acid-free tissue or a pillow insert to help maintain its shape, and avoid letting the chain rest pressed against the leather for long periods, as this can leave marks. For routine care, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth and avoid harsh cleaners or over-conditioning.

Q: Is a serial number alone enough to confirm authenticity?
A: No. A serial number is only one part of the overall authentication picture. Authenticity should also be assessed through materials, stitching, hardware, construction, stamps, and period-correct details. That is especially important with vintage Chanel, where cards may be missing and stickers can show age-related wear.
