Louis VuittonMonogram Montorgueil PM Bag

Q: What typically fits inside the Montorgueil PM?
A: As a compact bowling‑style shoulder bag, it comfortably holds daily essentials: a large smartphone, continental wallet, keys, slim sunglasses in a soft sleeve, a small cosmetics pouch, and an A5 diary/notebook. A compact tablet (e.g., iPad mini/Kindle) can fit; A4 documents do not lie flat, and a 500 ml bottle usually needs to be laid sideways due to the curved zip opening. Please refer to the Measurements on this page for the exact capacity of this specific piece, or ask us for a tailored fit check.

Q: Can I wear it on the shoulder, and what is the handle/strap drop?
A: Yes—its dual flat straps are designed for shoulder carry. Typical strap drop for the PM is around 20 cm, which sits comfortably on the shoulder for most wearers; over bulky winter layers it may feel snug. We list the handle/strap drops under Measurements—just ask if you’d like advice on how it will sit on you.

Q: How secure is the closure? Does the padlock actually lock the bag?
A: The Montorgueil PM features a zip‑top main compartment for everyday security. Many examples include a small padlock that can be used to secure the zipper pulls together at the end tab/ring; this deters casual opening while remaining largely decorative for daily use. Always check “Accessories” on this page to see exactly what’s included with this piece.

Q: What is the interior layout?
A: The PM typically has a brown textile lining with a single hanging slip pocket. Our photos show the exact interior of this item so you can see the pocket configuration and lining condition.

Q: What materials is it made from and how do they wear?
A: It’s crafted in Monogram coated canvas with untreated Vachetta leather trim and gold‑tone brass hardware. The canvas is light, durable and splash‑resistant, while Vachetta is a natural leather that patinates and is sensitive to water and oils—expect a deepening of colour over time. Hairline scratches on hardware are normal with use.

Q: How should I care for the Vachetta leather, canvas and hardware?
A: Keep Vachetta away from moisture and dark denim to minimise watermarks and colour transfer. Blot (don’t rub) if lightly wet, allow to air‑dry away from heat, and condition sparingly with a quality neutral product after spot‑testing. Wipe the coated canvas with a soft, slightly damp cloth and mild soap if needed, then dry immediately. Hardware should be gently buffed with a soft cloth; avoid abrasive polishes.

Q: Is the Montorgueil PM still produced?
A: The Montorgueil line is generally discontinued and now appears mainly on the pre‑loved market. You’ll often see production years around 2008–2011 noted for these pieces.

Q: Where is the date code located and what does “SP2079” indicate?
A: On older Louis Vuitton bags like this, the date code is usually stamped on a small leather tab along an interior seam or near the pocket. For codes used from 2007 to early 2021, the 1st and 3rd digits indicate the week and the 2nd and 4th digits the year, while the letters denote factory/country. “SP2079” decodes to France, 27th week of 2009. Date codes are helpful but not proof of authenticity on their own.

Q: There’s a vintage smell—how can I reduce it safely?
A: Air the bag in a clean, dry room out of direct sunlight. Place odour absorbers (activated charcoal or baking soda wrapped in breathable pouches) inside for several days, replacing as needed. Avoid spraying perfumes or harsh cleaners on leather or lining. If the scent persists, a professional bag spa can help.

Q: What accessories are included and how do you authenticate?
A: Everything included with this specific bag is listed under “Accessories” (for this piece, a padlock is noted). At A Retro Tale, every item undergoes rigorous, multi‑point authentication by our in‑house experts, who assess materials, stitching, hardware, stamps, date code and overall construction. We stand behind the authenticity of every piece we sell.
