Q: What is included in the Chanel Parent and Child Set?
A: This rare vintage set consists of two matching top‑handle bags: a larger “Parent” bag (approx. 25.5 cm wide) and a miniature “Child” bag (approx. 14 cm wide). They share the classic Kelly‑style silhouette with a single top handle, quilted lambskin leather, and the iconic CC turn‑lock closure. They can be carried individually or paired together for a unique collector’s look.

Q: What fits inside the Parent and Child bags?
A: The larger “Parent” bag is comparable in size to a Chanel Classic Medium Flap; it typically holds a large smartphone (including Pro/Max models), a continental wallet, keys, sunglasses in a soft case, and small cosmetics. The “Child” bag is a true micro‑bag (approx. 14 × 11.5 cm)—it is best suited for tiny essentials like a lipstick, folded cash, loose keys, or AirPods. Modern smartphones generally do not fit in the smaller bag.

Q: Can I wear these bags on my shoulder?
A: These bags are designed as structured top‑handle pieces, intended to be carried by hand or in the crook of the arm. They generally do not come with shoulder straps, and the handle drop is typically too short for shoulder wear. Please check the “Measurements” section for the exact handle drop of this specific set.

Q: How do the two bags connect?
A: Originally, the Parent and Child set was designed so the smaller bag could hang from the larger one via a metal clip or carabiner. However, as these are vintage pieces, the connecting hardware may vary or be absent. Please carefully review the “Accessories” list and the product photos to confirm if a connector is included with this specific listing, or if they are sold simply as a matching pair to be carried separately.

Q: What is the condition of the hardware and materials?
A: This set is crafted from brown quilted lambskin, known for its luxurious softness and smooth finish. Vintage Chanel lambskin from the early 1990s (indicated by the 2‑series serial number) often features 24K gold‑plated hardware, which has a rich, deep yellow‑gold tone. As with all vintage lambskin, light surface scratches or pressure marks are common and add to the bag’s character. The “Condition” fields on this page detail the specific wear on this item.

Q: How should I care for vintage lambskin?
A: Lambskin is delicate and should be kept away from moisture, oils, and prolonged direct sunlight. To maintain the puffiness of the quilts and the bag’s structure, store the bags upright and stuffed with acid‑free tissue in their dust bag. Avoid rubbing against abrasive surfaces or dark denim (colour transfer). If the leather needs conditioning, use a high‑quality product designed specifically for untreated analine leathers, applied sparingly.

Q: How do you authenticate this vintage set?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale is rigorously vetted by our in‑house experts. We check the leather quality, stitching consistency, hardware weight and finish, and the serial sticker code (this piece features a 2xxxxxx code, dating it to approx. 1991–1994). We stand behind the authenticity of every piece we sell.
