ChanelQuilted Cambon Tote Bag

Q: What can this Cambon tote hold day to day?
A: With approximate measurements of 34 × 24 × 14 cm, it comfortably carries a long wallet, phone, keys, sunglasses case, small water bottle, cosmetics pouch and an A5 diary or tablet. A slim 13-inch laptop may fit, but we recommend using a protective sleeve and avoiding overfilling to preserve the shape.

Q: Will it fit a laptop for commuting?
A: Most 13-inch laptops will fit in a slim sleeve; however, consistent heavy loads can distort the tote’s structure over time. For longevity, limit weighty items, use a padded sleeve and alternate sides when carrying.

Q: Is the Cambon tote still in production?
A: No. The Cambon Ligne was produced in the mid‑2000s and was discontinued around 2012. Current availability is through vintage and pre‑owned markets, which makes well-kept examples sought after by collectors.

Q: Does this particular bag have a zip or an open top?
A: This specific piece has an open top as shown and described on this page. Note that Cambon totes also existed in zip‑top versions; please refer to the photos and product information for the exact configuration of this item.

Q: Where was the Cambon tote made?
A: Chanel produced Cambon totes in both France and Italy, and the interior heat stamp indicates the origin on each individual bag. This piece is labelled Italy in the product information.

Q: What is the lining like—and is orange original to this line?
A: Many Cambon pieces feature a bright logo textile lining in pink or orange, which is a hallmark of the collection. This bag has an orange lining. As with any fabric interior, light marks can occur with use; a gentle lint roll and careful spot blotting can help, and deeper cleaning is best left to a professional handbag care service.

Q: How should I care for the leather and prevent colour transfer?
A: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth, keep away from moisture and prolonged direct light, and avoid contact between light leathers and dark fabrics to minimise colour transfer. Do not overfill the bag to help it retain its lines. Store upright, lightly stuffed, in a breathable dust bag when not in use.

Q: What’s the handle drop—can I wear it on the shoulder?
A: The strap drop is approximately 22 cm, which is designed to sit comfortably on the shoulder or be carried by hand with rolled leather handles.

Q: Does this item include a card, dust bag or other extras?
A: Everything included with this piece is listed under product information. Cambon totes originally came with a serial sticker and an authenticity card; on the pre‑owned market these may or may not be present. If an item isn’t listed in product information, it is not included.

Q: How can I date and verify a vintage Cambon tote?
A: Pre‑2021 Chanel bags typically have a 7‑ or 8‑digit serial sticker inside that corresponds to a production period; Cambon totes from the mid‑2000s usually carry an 8‑digit code. The code alone does not prove authenticity, so we also recommend professional assessment. Every item at A Retro Tale is rigorously authenticated by our in‑house experts before it is listed.
