ChanelPremière 20mm Gold-Plated Black Dial Quartz Watch

Q: What is the Chanel Première and why is it iconic?
A: Launched in 1987 as CHANEL’s first watch for women, the Première is defined by its octagonal case inspired by Place Vendôme and the N°5 perfume stopper, and a jewellery-like chain bracelet interlaced with leather. Most references use a high-precision quartz movement for easy, reliable wear.

Q: What are the key details of this piece?
A: This vintage example features a gold‑plated case, black dial, and a chain bracelet woven with black leather. It runs on a quartz movement. The case is approximately 20 mm across and the bracelet fits a 14 cm wrist or smaller. It is offered without accessories unless otherwise stated.

Q: Can the bracelet be resized?
A: Vintage Première bracelets were produced in fixed lengths (typically S, M, L, XL). Resizing is specialist work and usually involves removing links and re‑weaving with a new leather cord. Adding length is difficult and may require sourcing parts; shortening is more feasible. For this particular watch, the current fit is up to 14 cm.

Q: Is the watch water‑resistant?
A: Contemporary Première models are rated to 30 metres; however, because this is a vintage piece with a leather‑interlaced bracelet, we recommend avoiding swimming, bathing or showering. Water‑resistance diminishes over time and gaskets should be tested after any battery change or service. Keep the leather dry to preserve its condition.

Q: What movement does it use and when will the battery need changing?
A: The Première typically houses a high‑precision Swiss quartz movement. Battery life varies by use and model; CHANEL notes that quartz batteries can last several years and advises replacing a stopped battery within about three months to avoid leakage. Battery replacement and sealing checks should be done by an authorised watchmaker or CHANEL service.

Q: How should I care for the gold‑plated case and leather‑woven bracelet?
A: Wipe the case and bracelet gently with a soft, dry cloth after wear, avoid abrasives and solvents, and minimise contact with perfumes or lotions to protect the plating. Keep the leather away from moisture and store the watch separately to prevent scratches. Leather elements are consumable and may require periodic replacement with wear.

Q: How do I set the time on a Première quartz watch?
A: Pull the crown out gently to the setting position, turn to set the hands to the desired time, then push the crown back in to restart the movement. For step‑by‑step visuals and model‑specific notes, refer to the Première user manual or consult a qualified watchmaker.

Q: What is included with this item?
A: Everything included is listed on this page. This watch is sold without accessories (no box, card, or spare links) unless explicitly stated in the Accessories section.

A: Every item at A Retro Tale is rigorously vetted by in‑house experts using multi‑point checks of materials, construction, engravings, and overall consistency with known CHANEL standards.
