Q: What typically fits inside a Birkin 30?
A: With approximate measurements of 30 × 22 × 15 cm, it comfortably carries a long wallet, smartphone, keys, sunglasses, a small cosmetics pouch, a compact umbrella, and a small tablet or e‑reader. Capacity depends on how you pack—please refer to the Measurements on this page for exact dimensions.

Q: Does the Birkin 30 come with a shoulder strap?
A: No. The classic Birkin is designed to be hand‑carried or worn in the crook of the arm using its rolled handles. While a few historic or special versions with straps exist, this is not standard and this piece does not include or support a strap. The handle drop is approximately 10 cm.

Q: What is Epsom leather and how does it wear?
A: Epsom is an embossed calfskin known for being lightweight, structured and resilient. It tends to hold its shape, shows crisp lines, and is relatively resistant to surface scratches compared with softer, natural‑grain leathers. Colours appear vivid on Epsom, giving a polished look that suits the Birkin’s clean silhouette.

Q: How should I care for and store this Epsom Birkin?
A: Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth after use; avoid conditioners or oils on Epsom. Keep away from moisture and direct heat or prolonged sunlight. When storing, empty the bag, loosely stuff it to support the shape, close the sangles lightly (do not over‑tighten), and place it upright in a breathable dust bag. Avoid hanging by the handles for long periods.

Q: Is the Birkin 30 heavy to carry?
A: Among Birkin leathers, Epsom is one of the lighter options, which helps keep overall weight manageable for daily use. Actual carry weight depends on what you put inside; packing lighter pouches and limiting metal items will keep it comfortable.

Q: Will a tablet or laptop fit?
A: A small tablet or e‑reader (such as an iPad mini) fits comfortably. Larger tablets around 10–11 inches may fit horizontally depending on any case used but will not fit upright; please compare your device’s measurements with the bag’s interior space.

Q: What does the blind stamp Square M mean on this bag?
A: The Square M stamp indicates Hermès produced this piece in 2009. On Birkins, the blind stamp is placed discreetly inside the bag; on earlier years it is often found on a sangle or near the interior back panel under the flap.

Q: What is included with this item?
A: Everything included is listed in the product information on this page. For this piece, that is the padlock, keys and clochette. If an item such as a dust bag or box is not listed there, it is not included.

Q: How should I look after the hardware?
A: Minor micro‑scratches are normal with use, especially on turn‑locks and feet. Avoid contact with the padlock while carrying to minimise friction. Wipe hardware with a clean, dry, non‑abrasive cloth and avoid metal polishes or chemicals that could damage the finish.

Q: How do you authenticate this bag?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale is thoroughly inspected by our in‑house experts using multi‑point checks of leather, stitching, hardware, stamps and construction. We stand behind the authenticity of all items we sell and are happy to provide additional photos or details on request.
