Q: What typically fits inside the Louis Vuitton Monogram Excursion Bag?
A: With approximate measurements of 24 x 33 x 12 cm, this structured bag is well suited to daily essentials and travel items. It can typically hold a long wallet, phone, keys, small cosmetics pouch, sunglasses, and other compact necessities. Because of its tall shape, it can also suit items such as a water bottle or slim umbrella, depending on how you organise it.

Q: Was the Excursion originally designed as a handbag?
A: The Excursion is widely known as a Louis Vuitton travel or shoe bag, which is why it has a tall, structured silhouette and practical wrap-around zip opening. Many collectors and vintage buyers now also use it as a distinctive everyday handbag.

Q: Does this bag come with a shoulder strap?
A: No shoulder strap is listed for this item. This piece is designed to be carried by hand using the top handles, with an approximate handle drop of 14 cm.

Q: What material is the bag made from?
A: This model is generally known for Louis Vuitton Monogram coated canvas with natural leather trim and gold-tone hardware. The coated canvas is durable for regular use, while the natural leather trim develops character over time.

Q: What does the serial number VI0948 mean?
A: Louis Vuitton date codes in this format are commonly read as the factory code followed by the production month and year. VI indicates France, and 0948 is typically interpreted as April 1998. As with all Louis Vuitton pieces, a date code helps indicate production details but should not be used on its own to confirm authenticity.

Q: Is this bag authenticated?
A: Yes. A Retro Tale carefully vets the authenticity of the items it sells using expert review of details such as materials, construction, hardware, stamps, and date codes. This item also includes the serial number VI0948 in the product details.

Q: What is the condition of this specific bag?
A: This bag is listed in Very Good Condition. The exterior shows minor wear on the leather trim and some light watermarks on the base of the handles. The interior has light traces of use, and the hardware remains shiny with light scratches.

Q: How should I care for the leather trim and watermarks?
A: The natural leather trim on vintage Louis Vuitton bags is delicate and can darken or mark with age and moisture. For day-to-day care, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth and avoid excess water, oils, harsh cleaners, and prolonged direct sunlight. Because this item already has light watermarks, any deeper cleaning is best handled very carefully or by a specialist in luxury leather care.

Q: Does this item come with any extras?
A: No. The product information states that this item comes with no accessories.

Q: Where was this bag made?
A: The product details list France as the country of origin, which is also consistent with the VI factory code shown in the serial number.
