Saint LaurentPineapple Silver Brooch

Q: What is this brooch made of?
A: It is crafted in sterling silver (AG925). Sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver alloyed with other metals for strength, which is the global standard for quality silver jewellery.

Q: How big is it and how does it wear?
A: Approximate dimensions are 5 × 2.5 × 0.5 cm. It sits comfortably on a lapel, coat, blazer, or knit. If you prefer an exact weight or further fit advice, please contact us.

Q: How secure is the fastening?
A: The piece features a traditional pin fastening with a locking catch as shown in the photos. Always ensure the pin is fully closed before wear and place it on a stable area of fabric for best hold.

Q: Will a brooch pin damage my clothes?
A: Occasional wear on sturdier fabrics (wool, tweed, denim) is generally safe. For delicate materials like silk or fine knits, pin through a reinforced area (seam, lapel buttonhole) or add a small felt backing inside the garment to distribute the pressure. Magnetic brooch backings are another option for very delicate fabrics.

Q: How should I clean and store sterling silver?
A: For routine care, gently polish with a quality silver cloth. If needed, wash briefly in mild soapy water, rinse, and dry thoroughly. Avoid harsh chemicals, chlorinated water, and prolonged humidity. Store the brooch clean and dry in a soft pouch or lined box, away from direct sunlight and moisture, to slow tarnish.

Q: Is sterling silver suitable for sensitive skin?
A: Sterling silver is typically alloyed with copper rather than nickel and is generally well tolerated. However, alloy mixes can vary by maker and some individuals may be highly sensitive. If you’re prone to reactions, wear the brooch over clothing and avoid plated components that may contain nickel.

Q: Where should I place a brooch or lapel pin?
A: Traditionally, brooches and lapel pins are worn on the left lapel, but placement is flexible. Try the lapel, shoulder, collar, beret, scarf, or even a structured bag. On knitwear and lighter fabrics, support the area from behind with a small piece of felt to prevent stretching.

Q: Can I wear it as a pendant?
A: Yes, many brooches can be worn as pendants using a brooch-to-pendant converter. Choose a converter that matches the pin’s orientation (horizontal or vertical) and ensure it fits securely before wear.

Q: What markings should I expect on sterling pieces?
A: Look for fineness marks such as 925 indicating sterling silver. Depending on era and market, additional hallmarks or brand signatures may appear on the reverse near the pin; exact placement varies by design.

Q: What is included and how is it authenticated?
A: Everything included is listed in the product information section; this piece is sold without extras unless stated there. Every item at A Retro Tale is authenticated by our in-house experts using multi‑point checks of materials, construction, stamps and overall workmanship, and we stand behind its authenticity.
