Q: What are the dimensions of this YSL logo brooch?
A: Approximately 5.5 x 3.5 x 0.4 cm (H x W x D). Please refer to the Measurements on this page for the exact size shown.

Q: What is it made of—is it solid gold?
A: It is a gold‑tone metal brooch. Most contemporary Saint Laurent brooches are crafted in brass with a gold‑tone finish; this vintage piece is not solid gold or hallmarked for precious metal.

Q: How does the brooch fasten and is it secure?
A: It uses a classic pin fastening with a safety catch. When the catch is closed properly, it’s designed to hold securely during regular wear.

Q: Which side and where should I wear a brooch for the best look?
A: Traditionally, brooches sit on the left lapel of a blazer or coat, but you can style it wherever it balances your outfit—on a lapel, shoulder, at the neckline, on a scarf, hat or even a bag strap.

Q: Will the pin damage delicate fabrics?
A: Brooches are best on sturdier fabrics like wool, tweed, denim or structured cotton. For delicate materials (silk, chiffon, fine knits), place it through a seam, use a small fabric stabiliser behind the area, or consider a magnetic brooch back to avoid holes and pulls.

Q: Can I wear it as a pendant on a necklace?
A: Yes. A simple brooch‑to‑pendant converter (horizontal or vertical) lets you slide the pin into a tubular bail so you can wear it on a chain without altering the piece.

Q: Is this brooch unisex?
A: Absolutely. The iconic YSL monogram suits any wardrobe—style it on a blazer, overcoat, tuxedo lapel, knit or even a beret for a modern, gender‑neutral statement.

Q: I have sensitive skin—could this cause irritation?
A: As with most gold‑tone/brass costume jewellery, trace nickel may be present. If you’re nickel‑sensitive, wear it on clothing rather than directly on skin, and avoid prolonged contact. You can also use a clear barrier product on the back if needed.

Q: How should I clean and care for it?
A: After wear, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. If needed, use a little mild soap in lukewarm water, then dry thoroughly. Avoid harsh chemicals, jewellery dips, ultrasonic cleaners or abrasive polishes, which can dull or strip the finish. Store it dry and separate from other pieces to prevent scratches.

Q: What is included with this item and how is authenticity ensured?
A: This listing includes the brooch only unless otherwise stated under Accessories. Every item at A Retro Tale is rigorously authenticated by our in‑house experts using multi‑point checks of materials, construction, hardware and brand markings; we stand behind the authenticity of all items we sell.
