Louis VuittonDamier Ravello GM Bag

Q: What typically fits inside the Louis Vuitton Damier Ravello GM?
A: With approximate dimensions of 25 × 15 × 8 cm, it comfortably holds daily essentials: a large smartphone, compact wallet or cardholder, keys, lipstick, slim sunglasses in a soft case and a small cosmetics pouch. An A5 notebook is a squeeze and won’t lie completely flat; an iPad mini–sized tablet may fit horizontally without a bulky case, but the curved zip opening makes thicker devices snug. For certainty, compare your items with the Measurements on this page or ask us for a tailored fit check for this exact piece.

Q: Is the strap adjustable or removable? Can I wear it crossbody?
A: The Ravello GM is designed with an adjustable shoulder strap; many examples also come with an additional detachable strap. On this specific piece, a detachable shoulder strap is included. With the listed drops (handle approx. 25 cm adjustable; strap approx. 22 cm), it wears best on the shoulder; crossbody carry will sit high for most and may not be comfortable over heavy layers. If you need extra length, we’re happy to advise on compatible longer straps.

Q: How secure is the closure and what pockets does it have?
A: It features a zip‑top main compartment for everyday security, an exterior front pocket with a push‑lock for quick access, and an internal slip pocket to organise small items. Our listing photos show the exact layout of this piece.

Q: What are the materials and lining?
A: The Ravello GM is crafted from Damier Ebene coated canvas with dark brown leather trim and gold‑tone hardware. The interior is lined in red Alcantara (microfibre) and typically includes a small slip pocket. This construction is known for its durability and low‑maintenance wear.

Q: Is Damier Ebene canvas water‑resistant? Can I carry it in light rain?
A: Louis Vuitton’s coated canvas is water‑resistant but not fully waterproof. Brief light rain is usually fine—wipe off moisture promptly and allow the bag to air‑dry away from heat. Prolonged exposure to water can still affect leather trim and hardware, so avoid heavy downpours and always dry thoroughly after contact with moisture.

Q: How should I clean and care for the coated canvas and leather trim?
A: For canvas, wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth and mild soapy water, then dry gently. Avoid harsh chemicals, alcohol wipes and abrasive scrubbing. Do not condition the canvas. For the leather trim, use a high‑quality neutral leather conditioner very sparingly after testing on a discreet area. Store upright, lightly stuffed, in a breathable dust bag, and pad hardware/strap contact points to minimise imprints and hairline scratches.

Q: Is the Ravello GM still produced?
A: The Ravello GM is a discontinued style and is now found primarily on the pre‑loved market. We specialise in sourcing authentic vintage and second‑hand pieces like this one, and availability can vary over time.

Q: Where is the date code and what does VI1017 mean?
A: On Alcantara‑lined LV bags, the date code is usually stamped on the lining or a small interior leather tab. “VI” indicates manufacture in France. For codes used in this era, the 1st and 3rd numbers denote the production week and the 2nd and 4th numbers the year—so “VI1017” corresponds to week 11 of 2007. Note that Louis Vuitton began phasing out visible date codes in favour of embedded microchips around 2021.

Q: What condition is this specific bag in?
A: This piece is graded Very Good overall with light traces of use. The hardware is shiny with light scratches; both exterior and interior show minimal wear. Please review our photos and the Condition notes on this page for a close‑up view of any signs of use.

Q: What accessories are included and how do you authenticate?
A: Included items are always listed under “Accessories.” For this piece, a detachable shoulder strap is included; if a dust bag or box is not listed, it isn’t included—feel free to ask us to confirm. Every item at A Retro Tale undergoes rigorous, multi‑point authentication by our in‑house experts, assessing materials, stitching, hardware, stamps, date code/microchip and overall construction. We stand behind the authenticity of all items we sell.
