Q: What typically fits inside the Speedy 35?
A: With approximate dimensions of 35 × 23 × 19 cm, it comfortably holds daily and weekend essentials such as a long wallet, phone, make-up pouch, sunglasses case, a compact umbrella, a 500 ml water bottle, an A4 notebook/diary, and a light cardigan. Capacity depends on how you pack; please refer to the Measurements on this page for exact sizing.

Q: Will a laptop fit in the Speedy 35?
A: Many users report that a 13-inch laptop fits when inserted at a slight angle due to the zip opening. Slim 14-inch devices may fit depending on the model and sleeve; 15-inch laptops are usually too large for the opening. For best results, compare your device to the bag’s opening and avoid hard cases to prevent stress on the zip and canvas.

Q: Does this model come with a shoulder strap?
A: This is the classic handheld Speedy 35 with dual rolled handles (approx. 10 cm drop). It does not include a strap. The Speedy Bandoulière versions feature side D-rings and a detachable, adjustable strap for shoulder or crossbody wear.

Q: Is the Speedy 35 suitable as a personal item for flights?
A: Generally, yes. When not overfilled, the Speedy 35 typically fits under the seat on many airlines and is often used as a personal item or carry-on. Airline rules vary by carrier and fare, so please check your specific airline’s current size allowances before travelling.

Q: How should I care for the Monogram canvas and Vachetta leather?
A: The coated canvas is durable and water‑resistant; wipe it gently with a soft, slightly damp cloth and mild soap if needed. The Vachetta leather trim is untreated and will patinate; avoid rain, oils and prolonged sun/heat to prevent watermarks and uneven darkening. Do not use harsh cleaners on leather. When storing, keep the bag lightly stuffed in a breathable dust cover in a cool, ventilated place and avoid overpacking to help maintain shape.

Q: How can I minimise base sagging and keep the bag’s shape?
A: Avoid overloading with heavy items, distribute weight evenly, and store it stuffed with clean tissue or a soft towel. Some owners prefer a soft felt organiser to add structure and protect the lining; very rigid base shapers can stress corners over time, so choose flexible inserts if you use them.

Q: What does the date code SP1924 mean on this bag?
A: SP indicates production in France. For codes used from 1990–2006, the first and third digits denote the month and the second and fourth digits denote the year. SP1924 therefore corresponds to December 1994 in France. Please note that a date code alone does not authenticate an item; it only indicates production details.

Q: What items are included with this listing?
A: Everything included is listed under the product information section on this page. This specific piece is delivered without additional items such as a padlock, keys, dust bag or strap unless stated in product information.

Q: There is mention of a slight vintage smell—how can I reduce it safely?
A: Air the bag in a dry, ventilated area away from direct sun. Place odour‑absorbing sachets (baking soda or activated charcoal) inside for 24–72 hours, replacing as needed. Avoid spraying perfume or harsh deodorisers directly on leather or lining. For persistent odours, consult a professional leather care specialist.

Q: How do you authenticate this bag?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale is checked by experienced in‑house specialists using multi‑point inspection of materials, stitching, hardware, stamps and date codes, and verified with a trusted third‑party authentication tool. We stand behind the authenticity of all items we sell and are happy to provide further details on request.
