Q: What size are the Cartier d'Amour Diamond Earrings, small model?
A: This pre-owned pair measures approximately 4 mm across the front motif and about 2 mm deep, so they sit neatly and close to the earlobe. Please refer to the Measurements on this page for exact details.

Q: What is the carat weight for the small model?
A: Cartier lists approximate carat weights that can vary slightly by production year and region. The small model is generally quoted with a higher total carat weight than the mini/XS model, but exact figures can differ. We have not recorded a laboratory carat weight for this pair; contact us if you would like us to provide an exact measurement for this item.

Q: Do these come as a pair and what is included?
A: Yes, they are sold as a pair of studs. Everything included is listed in the product information on this page; for this item, the original box and certificate are included.

Q: What metal and backing do they use?
A: They are crafted in 18-carat yellow gold and fitted with classic butterfly push-back fastenings for pierced ears.

Q: Are they comfortable for everyday wear and suitable for sensitive ears?
A: The small, low-profile design makes them ideal for daily wear. 18-carat gold is generally well tolerated, though anyone with known metal sensitivities should confirm suitability for their skin.

Q: Can I sleep, shower, or swim in them?
A: For longevity and security, we recommend removing them before sleeping, showering, exercising, or swimming. Soaps, lotions, and repeated pressure can loosen backings over time and dull the setting.

Q: How does the small model compare to the mini/XS model?
A: The small model has a slightly larger diameter (around 4–4.5 mm depending on production) and typically a higher total carat weight. The mini/XS model is closer to about 3.7–3.8 mm with a lighter total carat weight. Exact specifications may vary by year and market.

Q: What hallmarks should I expect to see on authentic Cartier earrings?
A: Authentic Cartier jewellery typically bears the Cartier signature, a unique serial number, and the 750 hallmark indicating 18-carat gold. Placement and engraving style can vary by era and model.

Q: How do you authenticate this piece?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale is carefully vetted by our in-house experts using multi-point checks of materials, craftsmanship, stamps, and serial numbers. We stand behind the authenticity of every piece we sell and can provide further details upon request.

Q: Can the posts be changed to screw backs or adjusted?
A: Post length or backing style changes may be possible through Cartier servicing, subject to assessment and fees. We do not modify pieces prior to sale; you are welcome to consult Cartier after purchase if you prefer a different backing.

Q: How should I clean and store these earrings?
A: Clean occasionally with lukewarm water and a drop of mild soap, gently brush with a soft brush, rinse, and pat dry. Store each earring separately in a soft pouch or box, and have settings checked periodically by a professional jeweller.
