Q: What is the length and how does it sit when worn?
A: The chain measures approximately 44 cm in perimeter, which typically sits around the base of the neck as a short necklace. Fit can vary by build and layering; please refer to Measurements on this page for confirmation.

Q: Can the length be adjusted?
A: This style has a spring ring closure and is not designed to be adjustable. If you prefer a longer drop, you can use a separate chain extender or layer with a longer chain. We do not recommend cutting or altering the chain as this may affect the plating and value.

Q: What is it made of—is it solid gold?
A: Vintage Chanel necklaces like this are costume jewellery crafted from gold‑tone plated metal rather than solid gold. The finish gives a rich yellow‑gold look while keeping the piece light and wearable.

Q: What does the “31 Rue Cambon” pendant signify?
A: It references Chanel’s historic Paris address at 31 Rue Cambon, the maison’s iconic flagship and a long‑standing motif used across vintage collections. The coin‑style medallion celebrates this heritage.

Q: How should I care for this vintage Chanel necklace?
A: Keep it away from water, perfume, lotions and high humidity. Apply fragrance and skincare before putting it on, and wipe it after wear with a soft, dry cloth. Store it separately in a cool, dry place to minimise friction and finish wear.

Q: How do I clean it safely?
A: Gently buff with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Avoid soaps, jewellery dips, ultrasonic cleaners and abrasive polishes, as moisture and chemicals can damage the plating and any applied finishes.

Q: What stamps or hallmarks should I expect?
A: Many vintage Chanel pieces feature a signature stamp or small plaque marked CHANEL and Made in France; some eras include season or year codes. Placement varies (on the pendant back or a small tag near the clasp). Stamps differ by period, and the mark alone is not proof of authenticity—construction, materials and finish should be assessed together.

Q: Is this piece nickel‑free or hypoallergenic?
A: As with most vintage costume jewellery, the metal composition can include base metals. If you have sensitivities (e.g., to nickel), consider using a clear barrier product on skin or choose pieces known to be nickel‑free.

Q: What closure and chain style does it have?
A: It features a rope‑style chain with a round “31 Rue Cambon” coin pendant and a spring ring closure—easy to fasten and secure for daily wear.

Q: What is included with my purchase?
A: Everything included is listed under the product information on this page. If an item such as a branded box or pouch is not listed there, it is not included—please contact us if you would like us to confirm what is currently provided.

Q: How does A Retro Tale authenticate this item?
A: Every piece is vetted by our in‑house experts using multi‑point checks of materials, construction, hardware, and stamps, supported by provenance where available. We stand behind the authenticity of all items we sell and are happy to share additional photos or details on request.
