Q: Is this the small or medium Lady Dior size?
A: Please rely on the measurements provided. This bag measures approximately 24 × 20 × 11 cm, which corresponds to what Dior currently calls the Medium size. Size names have evolved over time and can differ between eras and retailers, so dimensions are the best guide for fit and capacity.

Q: What typically fits inside these dimensions (24 × 20 × 11 cm)?
A: Daily essentials fit comfortably: a long wallet, smartphone, keys, compact sunglasses case, small cosmetics pouch and a small tablet (such as an 8-inch class). Note that the classic zip-top Lady Dior has a structured frame and a relatively narrow opening, so packing slim items and pouches helps with access.

Q: Does this item come with a shoulder strap, dust bag or other extras?
A: Please refer to the product information on this page for everything included. This specific piece is sold as shown; unless an item like a strap or dust bag is listed in the product information, it is not included. Many Lady Dior models feature or accept detachable straps, but compatibility depends on the presence and style of the bag’s rings—check the photos and contact us if you need advice.

Q: How can I carry this bag?
A: It is primarily a handheld top-handle bag with an approximate 8 cm handle drop, ideal in hand or in the crook of the arm. If you add a compatible strap (when rings are present), it can also be worn on the shoulder or crossbody for hands-free wear.

Q: Is the closure a zip or a flap, and does that affect usability?
A: This vintage example has a top zip closure. Earlier Lady Dior bags commonly used a zip, while many recent versions feature an interior flap. The zip design offers secure closure but can make the opening feel tighter; using slim pouches and avoiding overfilling improves accessibility.

Q: What is the Cannage quilting and why is it significant?
A: Cannage is Dior’s signature geometric quilting, inspired by the canework pattern on Napoleon III chairs used in the House’s historic salons. It’s a core House code that appears across Dior’s leather goods and other creations, making the Lady Dior instantly recognisable.

Q: What is the story behind the Lady Dior name?
A: The design gained worldwide fame in 1995 when it was gifted to Diana, Princess of Wales, who carried it frequently. Dior subsequently named the model “Lady Dior” in her honour, and it has remained a brand icon ever since.

Q: Where was this bag made and what is the material?
A: The product information indicates it was made in Italy. It features Dior’s Cannage quilted leather with silver-tone hardware and the D.I.O.R. charms, as shown in the photos and description on this page.

Q: How should I care for the quilted leather and hardware?
A: Wipe the leather gently with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth; avoid harsh cleaners, oils and prolonged exposure to moisture, heat or direct sunlight. Store the bag upright in a breathable dust bag, lightly stuffed to support its shape, and avoid hanging it by the handles for long periods. For deep cleaning or repairs, use a professional leather-care specialist.

Q: How do you authenticate this bag and where would the date code be?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale undergoes multi-point authentication, including checks of materials, stitching, hardware and stamps. On Dior handbags, a date code is typically found on the reverse of a small leather tag inside the bag or within an interior pocket. Formats vary by era but usually combine letters and numbers indicating factory and date. We stand behind the authenticity of all items and can share additional photos or details on request.
