Q: What typically fits inside the Hermès Evelyne 16 (TPM)?
A: Despite its compact size, it comfortably holds daily essentials: a large smartphone, cardholder or small wallet, keys, lip balm, wireless earbuds and a passport. A full‑length (continental) wallet, iPad mini‑sized tablet or a 500 ml water bottle generally do not fit well due to the 18 × 17 × 5.5 cm proportions. Please refer to the Measurements on this page or ask us for a tailored fit check for this exact piece.

Q: Is the strap adjustable, and can I wear it crossbody?
A: On the Evelyne 16, the web strap is detachable but typically not adjustable. It’s designed for shoulder or crossbody wear; the drop for this specific piece is listed at approximately 45 cm. On taller frames or over bulky outerwear it may sit a little higher—if you’d like exact on‑body advice, we’re happy to help.

Q: Does the Evelyne 16 have pockets or a lining?
A: The TPM is unlined and usually has a single open compartment with no internal or external pockets. Larger Evelyne III sizes introduce an exterior slip pocket, but this feature is not present on most TPMs. Our listing photos show the exact interior of this piece.

Q: How secure is the closure?
A: It closes with a leather tab and press‑stud. For commuting or travel we recommend keeping the bag upright and using a small zip pouch for valuables inside, as the top remains open when the tab is undone.

Q: What is Taurillon Clémence leather like, and how should I care for it?
A: Clémence is a supple, pebbled calf leather known for its casual look and comfortable hand. It can soften and develop a relaxed drape over time. Care tips: keep away from heavy rain and oils; if lightly wet, blot (don’t rub) and allow to air‑dry away from heat. Wipe with a soft, dry cloth and condition sparingly with a suitable neutral product after testing on a discreet area. Store upright, lightly stuffed, and in a breathable dust bag; avoid prolonged contact with dark denim to minimise colour transfer.

Q: Is the Evelyne TPM still produced and is it hard to find?
A: Yes, the Evelyne remains an active Hermès style. The TPM is a non‑quota, highly sought‑after size and boutique availability can be limited by colour and season. The pre‑loved market is often the quickest route to specific colours like Biscuit.

Q: What does “16/TPM” mean, and how does it compare to other sizes?
A: The number refers to the bag’s approximate width in centimetres. Current sizes commonly include 16 (TPM/Mini), 23, 29 (PM), 33 (GM) and 40 (TGM). The 16 is ideal for essentials; the 29 adds capacity and typically introduces an exterior pocket and an adjustable strap.

Q: How is the perforated “H” meant to be worn?
A: Historically, the perforated H side was designed to sit against the body (the holes originally aided ventilation when the bag carried grooming tools). Many wearers today prefer the H facing outward for the signature look—either way is correct.

Q: Can I swap the strap for another?
A: Yes. The strap is detachable, and many clients enjoy switching to other Hermès canvas or patterned Bandoulière straps (sold separately) for different looks. If you’d like guidance on lengths and drop for your height, let us know.

Q: What accessories are included and how do you authenticate?
A: For this item we list: box, dust bag, brand booklets and a detachable shoulder strap under “Accessories.” If an accessory isn’t mentioned there, it isn’t included. Every piece at A Retro Tale undergoes rigorous multi‑point authentication by our in‑house experts, assessing materials, stitching, hardware, stamps/date codes and overall construction—we stand behind the authenticity of every item we sell.
