Q: What fits inside the Louis Vuitton Monogram Ellipse MM?
A: As a medium, structured handbag, the Ellipse MM typically carries daily essentials: smartphone, continental (long) wallet or compact wallet, keys, slim sunglasses case, small cosmetics pouch, and an A5 notebook. A full A4 folder, large water bottle, or bulky items are usually a squeeze due to the curved sides and narrower opening. Capacity can vary slightly by production era—please refer to the Measurements on this page or contact us for tailored fit advice for this exact piece.

Q: Will it fit a tablet or laptop?
A: The MM size generally fits compact tablets (e.g., iPad mini) but most full‑size tablets (10–11 inch) and laptops do not fit comfortably because of the structured profile and oval opening. For certainty, compare your device’s dimensions with the Measurements listed or ask us to check the fit against this specific bag.

Q: Can I wear it on the shoulder or crossbody?
A: The Ellipse MM features short rolled handles intended for hand carry or the crook of the arm. It is not designed for crossbody wear and typically does not sit comfortably on the shoulder. We’ll list the handle drop under Measurements—if it’s missing, just ask and we’ll measure it for you.

Q: How secure is the closure and what pockets does it have?
A: Most Ellipse MM bags have a zip‑top main compartment (often a double zip) offering good everyday security. Interiors commonly feature a textile lining with a single slip pocket; exact pocket layout can vary by era. Please review our photos and description for the precise configuration of this item.

Q: What materials is it made from?
A: The Ellipse MM is commonly crafted in Monogram coated canvas with natural cowhide (vachetta) leather trim and gold‑tone hardware; linings are typically textile. Our listing specifies the exact materials and finish for this piece.

Q: How should I care for Monogram canvas and vachetta leather?
A: Coated canvas is durable—wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth and avoid harsh cleaners. Vachetta leather is untreated and sensitive to moisture, oils and colour transfer (especially from dark denim); handle with clean hands and avoid rain. If conditioning is needed, use a high‑quality neutral leather product very sparingly on the trim (test first on a discreet area). Store the bag lightly stuffed, upright, in a breathable dust bag, away from direct sunlight and heat.

Q: Does the Ellipse MM come with a padlock or other accessories?
A: Many Ellipse bags feature a double zip that can be secured with a padlock; some original purchases included a lock and keys. Not all pre‑loved pieces retain these items. Everything provided with this specific bag is listed under “Accessories.” If an accessory isn’t mentioned there, it isn’t included—feel free to contact us for confirmation.

Q: How do I maintain the bag’s structured, curved shape?
A: Avoid overfilling and distribute weight evenly. When storing, lightly stuff the bag to support the curves, keep the zip closed, and place it upright in a breathable dust bag. Do not flatten under heavy items. Protect the leather from prolonged contact with the canvas or hardware to minimise imprints.

Q: Where are the brand markings and codes located?
A: Authentic Louis Vuitton bags have an interior heat‑stamp (e.g., “LOUIS VUITTON Paris” and country of origin). Older pieces typically include a date code on a small leather tab or along an interior seam; from around 2021, LV transitioned to embedded microchips rather than visible date codes. Placement and format vary by era—contact us if you’d like close‑up photos of this item.

Q: Is the Ellipse MM still produced?
A: The classic Ellipse line is not part of Louis Vuitton’s current core offering in most boutiques and availability can be limited to seasonal reissues. The pre‑loved market is the best way to find specific sizes like the MM.

Q: How do you authenticate this bag?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale undergoes rigorous, multi‑point authentication by our in‑house experts, assessing materials, stitching, hardware, stamps, date code/microchip and overall construction. We stand behind the authenticity of all items we sell and can provide additional photos or details on request.
