Q: What are the measurements of the New Wave Chain Tote and how does it carry?
A: This piece measures approximately 33 × 23 × 14 cm with dual sliding chain-and-leather shoulder straps. The strap can be worn short or lengthened for a longer shoulder carry. Our sample’s strap drop is about 27 cm (short) or 47 cm (long).

Q: Will it fit a 13-inch laptop or A4 documents?
A: Yes, A4 documents and most 13-inch laptops in a slim sleeve generally fit horizontally thanks to the approx. 32–33 cm width. Do note the central zipped divider and magnetic top can make thicker cases a snug fit—if your device is bulky, please compare to the measurements above.

Q: Can this tote be worn crossbody?
A: The chain is designed for short or long shoulder carry rather than true crossbody. Some users may achieve a high crossbody depending on build, but the intended wear is on the shoulder.

Q: How is the interior organised?
A: The tote features two main compartments divided by a central zipped pocket, plus additional slip/zip pockets for small essentials. It closes with a magnetic fastening and is lined in soft microfiber for a tidy, protective finish.

Q: Is the chain strap comfortable on the shoulder?
A: The leather shoulder pads improve comfort in both short and long positions. As with many chain-strap bags, the chain can feel firm if the bag is heavily loaded or the straps are doubled; lightening the load or wearing the chain in its longer configuration typically enhances comfort.

Q: How heavy is the bag empty?
A: Expect around 1.0 kg when empty due to the substantial chain and padded leather. Minor variation by piece is normal.

Q: What leather is it made from and how should I care for it?
A: The New Wave line uses quilted calf leather. Wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth, avoid harsh cleaners and prolonged sun or rain, and store stuffed in a breathable dust bag. Condition sparingly with a quality leather conditioner if the leather feels dry; avoid overloading to preserve the quilting and strap comfort.

Q: What does the date code TJ2158 mean on this bag?
A: TJ indicates a French workshop. With the 2007–2021 format, the first and third digits show the production week and the second and fourth show the year—so 2•5 (week 25) and 1•8 (2018). Louis Vuitton began phasing out visible date codes in 2021 in favour of microchips, but this 2018 piece correctly bears a date code.

Q: What accessories are included with this item?
A: This bag comes with a clochette. Anything included is listed under Accessories on this page; if an item like a dust bag or padlock isn’t listed, it isn’t included—contact us if you’d like us to confirm.

Q: How do you authenticate this bag?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale is meticulously authenticated by our in-house experts using multi-point checks of leather, stitching, hardware, stamps, and date codes/microchips where applicable. We stand behind the authenticity of everything we sell and are happy to share additional photos or details on request.
