Q: How long is the necklace and where will it sit when worn?
A: The chain measures approximately 70 cm in perimeter (about 27.5 inches), which is typically considered an opera-length necklace. On most wearers this sits around the upper to mid-bust, making it ideal for statement styling or layering with shorter chains.

Q: Can I adjust the length?
A: This piece has a lobster clasp. If the chain has open links near the end, you can fasten the clasp to a different link to shorten it slightly. For more flexibility, a small extender chain can be added by a jeweller if desired.

Q: Are the stones real gemstones?
A: The piece features rhinestones. Rhinestones are man‑made stones (usually crystal or glass) designed to mimic the sparkle of gemstones; the central red stone is a coloured rhinestone rather than a natural ruby or sapphire.

Q: How should I clean and care for the rhinestones and gold‑tone finish?
A: Avoid soaking or ultrasonic cleaning. Instead, gently dry‑brush dust away with a soft, clean brush, then wipe the metal and stones with a lint‑free cloth. If needed, use a barely damp cotton bud to lift residue, holding the piece face‑down so moisture does not seep behind stones. Keep it away from perfumes, lotions and hairspray, put it on last when dressing, and store it separately in a soft pouch to minimise scratches.

Q: Can I wear it in the shower or while swimming?
A: It is not recommended. Water, chlorine and soaps can accelerate wear to gold‑tone plating, and excess moisture can compromise the foil backing sometimes used behind rhinestones, dulling their sparkle over time. Remove the necklace before bathing, swimming or exercising.

Q: What metal is this made from, and will it tarnish?
A: Vintage Saint Laurent fashion jewellery commonly uses gold‑tone plated base metals. Plating can show light surface wear with time and contact; careful use and proper storage help preserve the finish. Light micro‑scratches to the hardware are normal for vintage pieces, as noted in the condition report.

Q: Is it suitable for sensitive skin or nickel allergies?
A: Composition can vary on vintage fashion jewellery and may include alloys that release trace nickel. Modern UK/EU rules limit nickel release in jewellery that touches the skin, but older pieces may predate current standards. If you are highly sensitive, avoid prolonged wear, try it over clothing, or consult a jeweller for a barrier lacquer.
