Q: What does the Elsa Peretti Bean design represent?
A: The Bean motif symbolises the origin of life and new beginnings. Elsa Peretti introduced it at Tiffany & Co. in the 1970s, and its smooth, organic form is intended for effortless, everyday wear.

Q: What size is the Large Bean and how will it sit when worn?
A: Large Bean pendants are typically around 18–20 mm across the widest point, with small variations depending on production year and style. This piece has a 41 cm chain, so it generally rests near the collarbone on most wearers. Please refer to the product measurements on this page for exact details.

Q: Is the chain removable or adjustable?
A: On most Bean necklaces the chain is fixed, threaded through the pendant and not designed to be removed. Small length tweaks can be done with a chain extender; for significant changes, consult a professional jeweller or Tiffany client care.

Q: What hallmarks should I expect to see on an authentic piece?
A: Authentic examples typically show Tiffany & Co., Elsa Peretti and 925 sterling marks. Depending on the era, hallmarks may be placed on the chain tag or clasp rather than on the pendant itself. Some contemporary pieces may also include a country mark such as Japan.

Q: Is the pendant solid or hollow?
A: Many sterling silver Bean pendants use a hollow construction to keep the piece comfortably lightweight while preserving the sculptural volume. Weight varies by size and production run.

Q: Will sterling silver tarnish and how should I care for it?
A: Yes—sterling silver naturally tarnishes with exposure to air, humidity, perfumes and chlorine. Wipe with a soft polishing cloth; for a deeper clean, use mild soap and warm water, rinse and dry thoroughly. Avoid abrasive cleaners or chemical dips, and store in a dry, anti‑tarnish pouch.

Q: Can this necklace be polished or repaired?
A: Tiffany & Co. offers cleaning, repairs and fit alterations for their jewellery, and qualified independent jewellers can also polish and service sterling silver chains and clasps. For fixed‑chain Bean pendants, any chain work should be done professionally.

Q: Is the Bean necklace unisex?
A: Yes. The minimalist, organic design was conceived for easy, everyday wear and suits all genders, whether worn alone or layered.
