Q: What is this Chanel keychain made of?
A: It is crafted in gold‑tone metal. Like most vintage Chanel costume pieces, it is plated rather than solid gold, giving a rich finish while keeping the piece lightweight and durable for daily use.

Q: Can I use it as a bag charm as well as a keyring?
A: Yes. You can loop the split ring around a bag’s metal D‑ring or attach it to a handle. For delicate leathers, consider adding a small leather or fabric connector to minimise contact between metal and leather, and avoid hanging very heavy items from it.

Q: Will a metal charm scratch my bag or hardware?
A: Any metal against leather or polished hardware can leave marks if it rubs. To reduce risk, attach the keychain to existing metal hardware (like a D‑ring or strap clasp), add a soft buffer, and remove it during storage or rough travel. Check periodically for contact points.

Q: Does a Chanel keychain have a serial number or date code?
A: Chanel uses serial/date codes for bags and small leather goods. Jewellery and key fobs are generally identified by maker’s stamps and overall construction rather than a bag‑style serial sticker. Dating is typically based on stamp style and design details.

Q: How should I clean and care for the gold‑tone finish?
A: Wipe after wear with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. For stubborn marks, lightly dampen the cloth with water and gently wipe; dry immediately. Avoid abrasives, jewellery dips, alcohol, perfume, and prolonged humidity, which can dull or wear the plating. Store separately in a pouch to prevent scuffs.

Q: Can the plating be refreshed if it shows wear?
A: Yes. A professional jeweller can re‑plate gold‑tone costume metal. Note that any restoration may slightly change the original patina; choose a reputable specialist and keep documentation for future reference.

Q: What is included with this item?
A: Everything included is listed under the product information section on this page. If an item such as a box or dust bag is not listed there, it is not included.

Q: How big is it and how will it look on a bag?
A: Approximately 13.5 cm in height and 4 cm in width. The medallion‑and‑chain silhouette makes a refined statement on tote handles and strap hardware without being oversized; please refer to the measurements above to gauge scale on your bag.

Q: How do you authenticate this Chanel piece?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale is vetted by our in‑house experts using multi‑point checks of materials, stamping, construction, and finish. We assess maker’s marks in context with overall quality and period‑correct details and stand behind the authenticity of all items we sell.
