Q: What typically fits inside the Chanel Medium Micro Quilted Velvet Single Flap?
A: With approximate measurements of 25 × 16 × 6 cm, it comfortably holds a smartphone, compact wallet or card holder, keys, lipstick, and slim sunglasses. It will not accommodate a standard tablet or A4 documents; an iPad mini or A5 diary may only fit very snugly depending on case thickness. Please refer to the Measurements on this page for exact dimensions.

Q: Can I wear this bag crossbody?
A: This vintage single‑flap is designed primarily as a shoulder bag. The chain drop on this piece is about 42 cm, so crossbody wear is usually short on most people and may only work for petite frames. You can double the chain for a shorter shoulder carry.

Q: What year is the serial number 4017699 from?
A: A 7‑digit Chanel serial beginning with 4 indicates a 4‑series bag produced circa 1996–1997.

Q: Is the single‑flap version still made?
A: Chanel largely discontinued classic single‑flap versions around 2014. Vintage single flaps like this are sought after for being lighter and a touch roomier than comparable double‑flap models.

Q: How should I care for the velvet exterior?
A: Keep it away from rain and humidity; if it becomes damp, blot gently with a soft, absorbent cloth. Avoid contact with dark denim or light fabrics that could cause colour transfer. To refresh the pile, use a clean, soft clothes brush and brush lightly in one direction. Store the bag loosely stuffed in a breathable dust bag with the chain wrapped and tucked to prevent impressions on the velvet. Avoid harsh cleaners or soaking the fabric.

Q: Why does the navy colour look different under various lighting or in photos?
A: Velvet has a directional nap. Depending on how the pile lies and the lighting angle, the same velvet can appear lighter, darker, or slightly shimmery. This optical effect is normal and inherent to velvet.

Q: How do I look after the silver‑toned hardware and chain?
A: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after wear to remove oils. Avoid metal polishes, alcohol, or abrasive cleaners that can damage plated finishes. When storing, wrap the chain in tissue and keep it off the velvet surface to minimise imprints.

Q: What is included with this item?
A: As listed in the product information, this piece includes a serial number tag. Items not listed there (for example, dust bag, box, or authenticity card) are not included.

Q: How does A Retro Tale authenticate this bag?
A: Every piece is rigorously vetted by our in‑house experts through multi‑point checks of materials, stitching, stamps, serial number, hardware, and overall construction. We stand behind the authenticity of all items and can share additional photos or details on request.
