ChloéMedium Paddington Hobo Bag

Q: What typically fits inside the Chloé Paddington Hobo (Medium)?
A: With approximate measurements of 28 × 19 × 15 cm, it comfortably holds a long wallet, smartphone, sunglasses, keys, a small water bottle and a compact cosmetics pouch. It is not designed to fit a 13-inch laptop or A4 folder.

Q: Does the signature padlock actually lock the bag?
A: The zip top can be secured by threading the zipper pull through the leather loop and closing it with the padlock and key. In day-to-day use many owners keep the lock on as a design detail rather than locking and unlocking it each time.

Q: Is the Paddington Hobo heavy to carry?
A: Paddington bags are known to feel weightier than minimalist hobos because of the substantial metal padlock and hardware. Exact weight varies by year and style, but you can expect a solid, durable feel on the shoulder.

Q: How can this bag be carried?
A: The single shoulder strap has an approximate 25 cm drop for comfortable shoulder carry (even over a light coat) and can also be worn in the hand or crook of the arm. It is not designed for crossbody wear.

Q: What are the standout features of this vintage piece?
A: Brown grained leather, gold-tone hardware, a zip-top opening, the iconic oversized padlock with matching key, one exterior pocket and a canvas-lined interior with one pocket.

Q: What accessories are included with this item?
A: This listing includes the padlock and key. If an accessory such as a dust bag or authenticity card is not listed under Accessories, it is not included—contact us if you need confirmation.

Q: How can I spot an authentic vintage Paddington?
A: Check for supple, high-quality leather; clean, even stitching; weighty metal hardware with neat Chloé engravings; and a well-finished interior. Serial/date tags and zipper types can vary on authentic vintage pieces, so they are not sole proof of authenticity—evaluate the overall craftsmanship and buy from trusted experts.

Q: When was the Paddington introduced, and is it still in style?
A: First released in the mid-2000s, the Paddington quickly became an It-bag and helped popularise statement hardware. Renewed interest in Y2K icons has brought it back into the spotlight, making vintage examples highly sought after today.

Q: Any care tips for the leather and hardware?
A: Wipe the leather with a soft, slightly damp cloth and let it air dry; condition sparingly with a neutral leather conditioner when needed. Avoid overfilling to prevent stretching, store it loosely stuffed in a breathable dust bag, and wrap the padlock to minimise scratches. Keep away from prolonged sunlight and moisture.

Q: How does A Retro Tale authenticate this bag?
A: Every piece is examined by our in-house experts using multi-point checks of materials, stitching, stamps and hardware against period-correct references. We guarantee authenticity and are happy to provide additional photos or details on request.
