Q: What are the dimensions and what typically fits inside?
A: The Constance 18 measures about 18 × 15 × 4.5 cm. It comfortably carries daily essentials such as a standard-size smartphone (most non‑“Max/Plus” models), a cardholder or compact wallet, keys, a lipstick and small earbuds. Bulky items like a long continental wallet, a water bottle or a rigid sunglasses case are not recommended as they may distort the bag’s structure.

Q: Can I wear it crossbody as well as on the shoulder?
A: Yes. The strap can be worn long for crossbody or doubled for the shoulder. On this piece, the drop is approximately 45 cm when worn long and about 25 cm when doubled, which suits most frames for hands‑free wear.

Q: How do I open the H clasp safely without scratching the hardware?
A: Hold the horizontal bar of the H with your fingers and gently lift/pull it outward to release the spring mechanism, then raise the flap. To close, align the bar with the slot and press it back into place. Avoid scraping the flap against the hardware and refrain from using fingernails or tools on the metal surface.

Q: Is Box calf leather durable and how does it age?
A: Box calf is smooth, structured and refined. It is prone to light surface scratches that often diminish with gentle buffing and use, developing a beautiful glossy patina over time. It holds its shape elegantly and is a favourite among collectors for the character it gains with age.

Q: How should I care for vintage Box calf leather?
A: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth; keep away from moisture, oils and heat; and avoid rain where possible as water can leave marks. If it gets damp, blot (don’t rub) and let it air‑dry away from direct heat. Store it loosely stuffed in its dust bag, strap tucked inside, and avoid overfilling to prevent impressions on the leather. For deeper scratches or conditioning, we recommend Hermès Spa or a trusted leather specialist.

Q: Does a large smartphone fit?
A: Most standard smartphones fit; very large “Max/Plus” models may fit only snugly or at an angle and are best used with a slim case. If you carry a larger phone, consider downsizing other items like your wallet to maintain the bag’s shape.

Q: What does the blind stamp Circle T mean on this bag?
A: Hermès used letters within a circle to indicate the production year from 1971 to 1996. A Circle T corresponds to 1990. On Constance bags the stamp is typically found on the interior panel. Note that a date stamp confirms timing, but full authentication requires a holistic review of materials, construction and markings.

Q: Is the hardware real gold and how should I look after it?
A: Hermès hardware is usually plated in precious metal (for example, gold‑plated on gold‑tone pieces). Hairline scratches are normal with wear; simply wipe with a soft cloth and avoid abrasive polishes or chemicals that could thin the plating.

Q: Is the Constance 18 the same as the “Mini”?
A: Yes. The Constance 18 is often referred to as the Constance Mini or 1‑18. The number denotes its approximate width in centimetres.

Q: What accessories are included with this item?
A: This piece comes with a dust bag. Everything included is listed under Accessories on this page; if an item isn’t listed there, it is not included.
