Q: Is this Chanel 31 RUE CAMBON Necklace authentic?
A: Yes. Every item at A Retro Tale is rigorously vetted by our in‑house experts and sold with our authenticity commitment. Shop with confidence.

Q: What is it made from? Is it real gold?
A: Chanel costume jewellery is typically crafted from gilt (gold‑tone plated) base metal such as brass rather than solid gold. This piece is described as yellow gold‑tone with a medallion pendant and curb chain. Chanel’s Fine Jewellery is made from precious metals and is distinct from costume pieces unless explicitly stated.

Q: What does “31 Rue Cambon” refer to on the medallion?
A: It references Chanel’s historic Paris address at 31 rue Cambon—the house’s legendary boutique and couture headquarters since the early 20th century. The motif is a classic Chanel signature used across multiple seasons.

Q: What are the measurements and how will it sit when worn?
A: The necklace perimeter is approximately 43 cm. The medallion pendant is about 3.5 cm (height) x 3.5 cm (width) x 1.0 cm (depth). At 43 cm, it generally sits at the base of the neck/collarbone on most wearers. If you’d like the precise drop length or chain gauge, message us and we’ll measure it for you.

Q: How does it fasten and is it adjustable?
A: It features a spring‑ring clasp on a curb chain. There is no built‑in extender on this piece; a jeweller can usually add a short extender or replace the clasp if you’d like extra length. We can recommend reputable specialists on request.

Q: What hallmarks or stamps should I expect on a vintage Chanel necklace?
A: Most vintage Chanel necklaces carry a small oval or round plaque stamped CHANEL, often with “Made in France/Italy” and, depending on the era, a season or collection code. Formats and placement vary by decade. Please refer to our close‑up images for any stamps present on this piece.

Q: Is it nickel‑free and suitable for sensitive skin?
A: Vintage fashion jewellery may contain nickel in the base metal. If you have sensitivities, consider wearing it over clothing, applying a clear barrier product to contact points, and keeping the piece dry. Discontinue use if irritation occurs and contact us for guidance.

Q: Can I wear it in water or while applying perfume and lotions?
A: We recommend keeping Chanel costume jewellery dry and away from perfume, hairspray, lotions and hand sanitiser. Moisture and chemicals can dull or damage the plated finish over time. Put jewellery on last and remove it before showering, swimming or exercising.

Q: How should I care for and store the gold‑tone finish?
A: After wear, gently wipe it with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Do not soak or use chemical dips/ultrasonic cleaners. Store it individually in a pouch or box, away from humidity and direct sunlight, to minimise scratches and preserve the lustre.

Q: What condition should I expect, what is included, and can I return it?
A: This necklace is in Very Good Condition with light signs of wear consistent with careful use. This listing includes no accessories unless specifically stated. Returns are accepted under our standard policy—please see our Returns page for eligibility, timeframes and conditions, and ensure the item is returned in the same condition received.
