Q: What is this Chanel Coco Mark Brooch made of?
A: It is part of Chanel’s costume jewellery line and features a gold‑tone metal finish rather than solid gold. Chanel fine jewellery pieces are made of precious metals, but costume brooches like this are typically plated base metal. Please refer to the product information on this page for the exact details of this item.

Q: What are the measurements and fastening?
A: Approx. 6 × 6 × 0.4 cm with a traditional pin fastening on the back. The size sits well on lapels, knitwear and structured fabrics.

Q: What condition is it in?
A: Very good vintage condition with light traces of use. The hardware remains shiny with light surface scratches consistent with careful wear. Please review the photos for a close look at the finish.

Q: Will a brooch pin damage delicate fabrics?
A: Pins can leave small holes, especially on delicate materials like silk, chiffon or very fine knits. For these, avoid direct pinning; instead, pin through a seam, collar, or a reinforced area, or place a small piece of felt/interfacing behind the fabric. Thicker fabrics such as wool, tweed and denim are generally best for brooches.

Q: How can I keep the brooch secure while wearing it?
A: Pin at a slight diagonal through a thicker area or through both the outer fabric and lining, and fully close the clasp. For extra security, slide a small silicone or rubber earring back onto the pin post behind the clasp to act as a stopper.

Q: How should I care for and store a gold‑tone Chanel brooch?
A: Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth after wear. Keep it away from water, perfume, lotions and hairspray, which can dull or lift plating. Store it separately in its box or a soft pouch, away from humidity and direct sunlight.

Q: Can I clean or polish the finish?
A: Use only a dry, non‑abrasive cloth. Avoid liquid jewellery cleaners, ultrasonic machines, soap and water, or household chemicals, which may damage plating and stones. Do not apply clear nail varnish to “protect” the metal—the coating can flake and harm the finish.

Q: How do you authenticate this piece?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale is verified by our in‑house experts via multi‑point checks of construction, materials, stamping, logo fonts, pin mechanism and overall workmanship. We stand behind the authenticity of all items we sell and can provide additional images or details on request.

Q: Can the stamp help date a Chanel brooch?
A: Many Chanel costume pieces have an oval signature plaque on the back. From the 1990s onward, stamps often show a season letter (A/P/C) and two digits of the year (for example, P 01). Stamping alone is not definitive, but it can help estimate production when considered with other details.

Q: What is included with my purchase?
A: Everything included is listed in the product information on this page. For this listing, a box is included if stated there. Any other items are only included if specifically mentioned.
