Q: Are these suitable for non‑pierced ears?
A: Yes. They feature a clip‑on fastening designed to be worn without piercings. The clip tension can often be adjusted by a professional jeweller for a tailored fit, and adding silicone or foam comfort pads helps distribute pressure for longer wear.

Q: Do clip‑on earrings hurt or slip, and how can I make them comfortable?
A: Comfort depends on clip tension and earlobe shape. Simple tweaks can help: add soft clip‑on pads, ensure the clip is aligned flat on the lobe, and take short breaks during very long events. A jeweller can fine‑tune the tension if they feel too tight or loose.

Q: Can these be converted to pierced earrings?
A: Some clip‑on designs can be converted by a skilled jeweller, but not all. Conversion is permanent, may leave marks on the back, and can affect collectability and resale value of vintage Chanel. If you are considering conversion, consult a professional first and weigh the impact on originality.

Q: What are they made of?
A: Chanel costume jewellery typically uses gold‑ or silver‑tone plated base metal with decorative elements such as glass rhinestones and imitation pearls. This pair is silver‑toned with clear rhinestones and faux pearls, as noted in the features.

Q: Are the stones real diamonds or natural pearls?
A: No. The stones are clear rhinestones and the pearls are faux (imitation). Chanel’s costume earrings are known for high‑quality glass crystals and imitation pearls that deliver a luminous look without precious gemstones.

Q: How should I care for Chanel costume earrings with rhinestones and faux pearls?
A: Follow the “last on, first off” rule. Avoid contact with water, perfumes, hairspray, lotions, and cleaning agents; these can dull plating and loosen foiled stones. After wear, gently wipe with a soft, dry cloth and store separately in the box provided to prevent scratches and knocks. Do not soak or use ultrasonic cleaners.

Q: Will the silver‑tone finish tarnish or fade?
A: Chanel applies robust plating, but exposure to moisture, sweat, and chemicals can still cause dulling over time. Keeping the earrings dry, wiping them after wear, and storing them in a cool, low‑humidity place will help preserve the finish.

Q: How can I identify Chanel hallmarks on vintage earrings?
A: Many vintage pieces carry an oval or circular cartouche on the back stamped with “CHANEL” and often “Made in France” or “Made in Italy”; some include season/year codes. Stamps and placement vary by era, and lack of a stamp on certain early pieces is possible—this is why expert multi‑point authentication is important. All items at A Retro Tale are thoroughly vetted for authenticity.

Q: What if the clip feels too tight or too loose?
A: Minor adjustments to the paddle/hinge can change tension, but they should be done carefully (ideally by a jeweller) to avoid stressing the metal. Adding or replacing clip pads is a quick comfort fix; if slipping occurs, new pads or a gentle tension increase usually solves it.

Q: What accessories are included and how big are they?
A: This pair comes with a box. Everything included is listed under Accessories on this page. For exact dimensions, please refer to the Measurements section.
