Q: Are these clip-on or for pierced ears?
A: They feature a post back closure for pierced ears, with a CC stud and a dangling No.5 charm as shown in the photos.

Q: What are they made of?
A: Vintage Chanel costume jewellery typically combines gold-tone plated base metal with glass crystals/rhinestones. The exact alloy content is not specified on the piece; please see the product information for full details of this item.

Q: How big are they and how do they sit on the ear?
A: They measure approximately 3 cm in height and 1 cm in width. The No.5 charm sits just below the earlobe for a subtle drop effect. If you prefer extra support, you can add larger comfort backs (not included).

Q: How should I care for Chanel rhinestone earrings?
A: Follow Chanel’s costume jewellery care: avoid contact with water and high heat, apply perfume and hairspray before putting the earrings on, remove them for exercise, and wipe with a soft, dry cloth after wear. Store them individually in a pouch or box to prevent scratches and preserve the plating and stones’ brilliance.

Q: How do I clean the rhinestones safely?
A: Do not soak or use ultrasonic cleaners. Lightly dust with a soft brush first; if needed, use a barely damp, lint-free cloth or cotton swab to the metal and around stones, keeping moisture away from the settings. Dry immediately before storing.

Q: Can I wear them in the shower, pool, or rain?
A: No. Water, humidity, chlorine, and cosmetics can dull plating and may affect the setting adhesive used in crystal pieces. Remove before bathing, swimming, exercising, or applying lotions and sprays.

Q: Are they hypoallergenic or nickel-free?
A: As with most vintage costume jewellery, trace nickel may be present in posts or plating. If you have sensitive ears, consider barrier discs or plastic sleeves, and limit wear-time. Those with known nickel allergy may prefer titanium or solid-precious-metal posts for daily wear.

Q: What is included with this item?
A: Everything included is listed in the product information and shown in the photos. This listing notes no extras beyond the earrings themselves.

Q: How are these authenticated?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale is rigorously vetted by our in-house experts. Many vintage Chanel earrings feature a signature stamp plate indicating “Chanel” and “Made in France” and, on some eras, a season/year code. We assess stamps, construction, materials, and overall craftsmanship as part of our process.

Q: What if a rhinestone is lost later—can it be replaced?
A: A reputable jeweller can usually replace and colour-match rhinestones on costume pieces. Chanel boutique repair availability for costume jewellery varies by collection and evaluation; we are happy to advise on options if you ever need assistance.
