Q: Is this Chanel vintage necklace authentic?
A: Yes. Every item at A Retro Tale is rigorously vetted by our in‑house experts and sold with our authenticity commitment. Shop with confidence.

Q: What materials is it made from? Is it solid gold?
A: Most vintage Chanel costume jewellery is crafted from gold‑tone plated base metal (often brass) and may feature glass, resin or faux‑pearl details. It is not solid gold unless explicitly stated. If you’d like us to confirm the specific composition of this piece, please contact us.

Q: What is the length and will it fit me? Is it adjustable?
A: Please refer to the Perimeter Necklace measurement on this page and the photos. Many Chanel necklaces include an extender chain for some adjustability. If you need the precise wearable range (minimum–maximum length) or pendant drop, message us and we’ll measure it for you.

Q: How does it fasten?
A: Chanel vintage necklaces commonly feature a spring‑ring, lobster clasp or hook closure, sometimes attached to an extender chain. Check the close‑up images to see the exact fastening on this piece, or contact us for confirmation.

Q: What hallmarks or stamps should I expect?
A: Most vintage Chanel necklaces carry an oval or round plaque stamped CHANEL, often with “Made in France/Italy” and a season code. Placement and format vary by era, and some early pieces may lack plaques. Our listing photos show any stamps and signatures present on this necklace.

Q: Is it suitable for sensitive skin? Is it nickel‑free?
A: Vintage and fashion jewellery may contain nickel. If you have sensitivities, consider applying a clear barrier product to contact points or wearing the piece over clothing. Discontinue use if irritation occurs and contact us for guidance.

Q: How should I care for a gold‑tone plated Chanel necklace?
A: Keep it dry and away from perfume, lotions, hairspray and hand sanitiser. After wear, wipe gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and store separately to avoid scratches. Do not soak, use ultrasonic cleaners or chemical dips. A non‑abrasive jewellery cloth can be used lightly on metal areas only.

Q: Will the finish tarnish or fade with wear?
A: Plated finishes can show light wear over time, especially at high‑friction points like the clasp and extender. Minimising moisture and cosmetic exposure, wiping after wear, and storing individually help preserve colour and lustre. Any notable patina or wear is shown in our photos and condition notes.

Q: Can it be resized, extended, repaired or replated?
A: A jeweller can often add a short extender, adjust length slightly, replace a clasp, or perform gentle replating. Chanel’s after‑sales service for costume jewellery is at their discretion and varies by boutique. We don’t modify items in‑house but can recommend reputable specialists; note that alterations may affect originality and resale value.

Q: What condition should I expect, what is included, and can I return it?
A: Expect gentle vintage wear (such as micro‑scratches, minor plating rub or light patina) unless stated otherwise. Only accessories specifically shown or listed are included; Chanel typically does not issue authenticity cards for costume jewellery. Returns are accepted in line with our policy—please see our Returns page for eligibility, timeframes and conditions.
