Q: What are the measurements and how do these earrings sit on the ear?
A: The drops measure approximately 2.7 cm in height, 1.5 cm in width and 1.2 cm in depth. With a hook fastening for pierced ears, they sit just below the earlobe as an elegant medium-sized drop.

Q: Are these earrings made of solid 18kt gold?
A: They are crafted in 18kt yellow gold. In fine jewellery, 18kt indicates 75% pure gold and is often marked with the fineness stamp “750”. Hallmark placement can vary by piece and era.

Q: What gemstones are used and how should I care for them?
A: The stones are citrine, a yellow-to-orange variety of quartz and a modern November birthstone. Clean gently in lukewarm water with a small amount of mild soap and a very soft brush, then pat dry. Avoid bleach, chlorine, harsh household chemicals and extreme heat. Because many citrines on the market are heat-treated and some stones may contain natural inclusions, we recommend hand-cleaning rather than ultrasonic or steam cleaning as a precaution.

Q: Are they suitable for sensitive ears?
A: Many people with sensitive skin tolerate 18kt yellow gold well. In Europe, jewellery is subject to nickel-release limits under REACH (tested to EN 1811), which helps reduce reactions. However, individual sensitivities vary; if you have a known severe allergy, consider a patch test or consult a jeweller before extended wear.

Q: How secure is the hook fastening? Do they come with backs?
A: Hook (French wire) fastenings are designed to stay in place during normal wear. If you want extra security, you can add small silicone stoppers on the hooks. This pair is listed with no accessories included, so stoppers are not supplied.

Q: Do these earrings come with the original box or paperwork?
A: No. The Accessories section for this item is marked “no accessories,” so there is no original box, certificate or extras included.

Q: Are they hallmarked?
A: Fine gold jewellery typically carries purity and maker’s marks; for 18kt gold this is often “750”, along with brand and origin marks. On vintage pieces, hallmarks can be small or softened by wear. Please refer to our photos for any visible stamps—authenticity is guaranteed by A Retro Tale.

Q: Can the hooks be changed to clips or studs?
A: A skilled jeweller can often convert hooks to alternative fittings, but any modification is permanent and may affect originality and future servicing. We generally recommend enjoying the piece as designed.

Q: Can I wear them every day?
A: Yes—citrine is reasonably durable (quartz is Mohs hardness 7) and 18kt gold is suitable for frequent wear. Remove the earrings for swimming, sports, showering and sleep; store them separately in a soft pouch to avoid scratches and knocks.
