Q: How does a 40 cm chain necklace fit on most people?
A: At 40 cm (about 15.7 inches), this typically sits as a choker or close to the base of the neck for many wearers. If you prefer a looser drape, consider adding a small extender chain for extra length.

Q: Is this necklace solid gold?
A: No. It features gold‑tone hardware typical of vintage Givenchy costume jewellery, usually a gold‑plated finish over a base metal rather than solid gold.

Q: Is the length adjustable?
A: The engraved hook clasp can often fasten into neighbouring curb links for a slight adjustment. For more flexibility, a slim extender chain can be attached to the clasp; a jeweller can also add permanent length if desired.

Q: How should I care for the gold‑tone finish?
A: Keep it dry and avoid contact with perfumes, lotions, chlorine, and sweat. After wear, wipe gently with a soft cloth; if needed, use a little mild soapy water and dry immediately. Store it separately in a pouch or lined box to prevent scratches. With use over time, the plating may show wear; many jewellers offer replating services if you wish to refresh the finish.

Q: Is it hypoallergenic or nickel‑free?
A: As a vintage fashion piece, the base metal may contain nickel and it may predate modern nickel‑release limits. If you have sensitive skin, consider limiting direct contact, wearing it over clothing, or using a clear barrier on the contact area. Discontinue wear if irritation occurs.

Q: How do you authenticate a vintage Givenchy necklace, and what hallmarks might I see?
A: Authentic vintage Givenchy often carries stamped signatures such as “Givenchy”, “GIVENCHY Paris”, or “Givenchy Paris New York”, commonly on an oval plaque; some late‑1970s pieces are date‑stamped. At A Retro Tale, every item undergoes multi‑point checks of materials, construction, and maker’s marks by our in‑house experts.

Q: What is a curb chain, and how does it wear?
A: A curb chain is made from interlocking, flattened links designed to lie smoothly against the skin. It’s a classic, durable style that layers well with other chains and sits neatly as a choker at this length.

Q: Can I wear it in the shower, pool, or at the gym?
A: We don’t recommend it. Moisture, soaps, and chlorine can dull or accelerate wear to gold‑plated finishes. Remove the necklace before bathing, swimming, or exercising.

Q: What accessories are included with this item?
A: This piece is sold as shown with no accessories. Anything included is always listed under Accessories on this page.
