Q: What is the length and how will it sit on the neck?
A: The necklace measures approximately 40 cm in perimeter (choker length). On most necks it will sit close to the base of the neck with a clean, multi‑strand drape. If you prefer a little extra drop, a small removable extender can be added at the clasp by a jeweller or with a compatible extender chain.

Q: How does the decorative box clasp work and how do I secure it?
A: A box clasp uses a spring‑tension tongue that slides into a box housing and clicks when locked. To open, gently press the side release and pull the tongue out. To close, insert the tongue until you feel or hear a click, then give a light tug to confirm it is secure.

Q: Is this solid silver or silver‑plated?
A: This piece is described as silver‑toned metal, which is typical of vintage Givenchy costume jewellery that is usually plated over a base metal rather than solid sterling silver. Solid silver pieces are generally stamped with fineness marks such as 925; most vintage Givenchy necklaces are plated finishes.

Q: How should I care for a silver‑toned plated necklace to help keep the finish bright?
A: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after wear, keep it away from perfume, lotions, sweat, and hairspray, and store it in a dry pouch or box to minimise exposure to air and moisture. Avoid abrasive polishes or dips that can strip plating. Remove before showering, swimming, or exercising to protect the finish.

Q: Is the snake‑chain design delicate and prone to kinking?
A: Snake chains have a smooth, tubular structure that can kink if sharply bent or twisted, and kinks are difficult to correct. Store the necklace flat or hanging straight, avoid tugging or twisting the strands, and fasten the clasp before storing to keep strands aligned.

Q: Can the necklace be replated in future if the finish shows wear?
A: Many specialist workshops can re‑plate costume jewellery, though some jewellers may decline due to base‑metal chemistry. Results vary by base metal and construction, and heavy replating can soften or obscure maker stamps. Consult a plating specialist for options and quotes.

Q: Is it nickel‑free and suitable for sensitive skin?
A: The exact alloy of vintage plated jewellery can vary and may include nickel. If you have sensitivities, consider using a clear jewellery‑shield product on contact areas, wear over clothing when possible, or choose nickel‑free extenders and findings. Discontinue wear if irritation occurs.

Q: What condition is this piece in?
A: Very Good. You can expect minor marks and light discolouration on the hardware from gentle wear; the hardware remains shiny with small scratches, consistent with age and careful use.

Q: What is included with the item?
A: Everything included is listed in the product information on this page. If items such as a branded box or dust bag are not shown there, they are not included.

Q: How do you authenticate this Givenchy necklace?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale is vetted by our in‑house experts using multi‑point checks of materials, construction, and maker’s marks. Typical vintage Givenchy signatures include plaques stamped Givenchy, GIVENCHY Paris, or Givenchy Paris New York; placement is often near the clasp or on an oval cartouche. We stand behind the authenticity of all items we sell and are happy to share additional photos or details on request.
