Q: Which scarf formats does the Hermès Chaîne d'Ancre Scarf Ring suit best?
A: It is designed for the classic 90 cm carré. Hermès also offers a Mini Chaîne d'Ancre ring specifically for Twilly and 45 formats, and dedicated rings for 70 cm carrés. If you use other formats, the hold will depend on how tightly you fold the scarf—please refer to the Measurements on this page for this piece.

Q: How do I use it with a 90 cm scarf?
A: Fold your scarf on the bias into a long band, bring both ends together and slide them through the ring. Adjust the height and drape to suit. The ring is made to glide smoothly over silk, so avoid twisting or forcing it over bulky folds.

Q: Is this ring solid gold?
A: No. Hermès scarf rings are typically crafted in plated brass (such as permabrass) or palladium‑plated brass depending on the model. Unless a piece is explicitly described as solid precious metal, it should be considered plated. This vintage item has a gold‑tone finish.

Q: Will it snag or damage my silk?
A: Properly finished scarf rings are smooth and designed to glide over silk. To protect your scarf, ensure the ring edges are clean and smooth, avoid spraying perfume or hairspray near the silk, and do not pull the ring over overly thick folds.

Q: How should I clean and care for the ring?
A: Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid contact with water, chlorine, salt, perfumes and cosmetics. Store it separately in its box or a pouch to minimise scratches. Do not use abrasive polishes or ultrasonic cleaners on plated finishes.

Q: Can I use it with a 140 cm shawl or cashmere‑silk?
A: This model is sized for 90 cm silk carrés. Thicker 140 formats may be too bulky for this ring; many 140 styles are best tied without a ring using classic knotting methods.

Q: What is the Chaîne d'Ancre motif?
A: Chaîne d'Ancre, meaning anchor chain, is a house icon introduced in 1938 by Robert Dumas. The interlocking oval links with a central bar are inspired by nautical anchor chains and appear across Hermès jewellery and scarf rings.
