Q: What typically fits inside the Hermès Garden Party GM?
A: With approximate measurements 42 × 29 × 15 cm and a 17 cm handle drop, it comfortably holds an A4 folder, a 13-inch laptop in a sleeve, a water bottle, long wallet and daily essentials. Capacity varies with how you organise it; please refer to the Measurements on this page for exact dimensions.

Q: Does the Garden Party have a secure closure?
A: Yes. It features Hermès’ Clou de Selle snap at the top and side snaps that let you cinch or expand the gussets. For commuting or travel, we recommend keeping small valuables in a zipped pouch or organiser inside the open compartment.

Q: Can I carry it on the shoulder?
A: This GM has rolled leather handles with around a 17 cm drop. Many wear it comfortably over the shoulder on light layers; it’s also easy to hand-carry or wear in the crook of the arm.

Q: What are the materials on this piece?
A: It is crafted in beige Toile canvas with black Negonda calfskin trim and silver-toned hardware. Negonda is a dense, grained Hermès leather appreciated for its durability and supple feel, while the Toile canvas keeps the bag lightweight and relaxed.

Q: How should I care for Toile canvas and Negonda leather?
A: Wipe canvas with a slightly damp, soft cloth and allow it to air-dry; avoid soaking or machine washing. For the leather, use a clean, dry cloth and keep away from oils, solvents and prolonged heat or sunlight. Store the bag gently stuffed in its dust bag, in a cool, dry place. A base shaper or organiser can help maintain structure and protect the unlined interior.

Q: Will it fit a laptop?
A: Yes, most 13-inch laptops fit horizontally; slimmer 14-inch models may fit depending on their sleeve or case. For safety, use a padded sleeve and place it against the back panel.

Q: Is it suitable as cabin baggage?
A: As a tote, it typically fits under the seat and works as a personal item on many airlines. Policies vary by carrier and route, so please check your airline’s current cabin baggage rules before travel.

Q: What does the date stamp “square H (2004)” mean?
A: Hermès uses a blind stamp system with a letter and shape to indicate the production year. A letter inside a square corresponds to 1997–2014; the letter H denotes 2004. This is a craft/date stamp and not an authenticity card.

Q: Does this model come with a shoulder strap or interior lining?
A: The classic Garden Party is designed without a detachable strap and has an open, unlined canvas interior, making it light and easy to use with pouches and organisers.

Q: What accessories are included and how is authenticity handled?
A: This item includes a dust bag as listed. Hermès does not issue authenticity cards. Every item at A Retro Tale is carefully vetted by our in‑house experts using multi‑point checks of materials, stitching, hardware and stamps.
