Q: What typically fits inside the Boîte Chapeau Souple PM?
A: Despite its compact, round profile (approx. 19 × 16 × 7 cm), it comfortably carries daily essentials such as a large smartphone, compact wallet or cardholder, keys, slim sunglasses in a soft case, AirPods, lipstick and a small cosmetics pouch or passport. A6 notebooks usually fit; A5 documents and small tablets are generally too large due to the 16 cm height and curved opening. If you’d like, we can perform a quick fit check for your specific items.

Q: Will it fit a continental (long) wallet or an iPad mini?
A: A full‑length continental wallet (around 19 cm long) may fit only on a diagonal and can be snug; most users prefer a compact wallet for ease of access. An iPad mini or 11‑inch tablet typically does not fit because of the bag’s height and circular shape.

Q: Is the strap adjustable and can I wear it crossbody?
A: Yes. The PM comes with an adjustable leather strap designed for shoulder or crossbody wear. On this specific piece, the strap drop is approximately 55 cm, which suits most wearers for comfortable crossbody carry; on taller frames it may sit slightly higher. If you need an exact drop on you, just ask and we’ll advise.

Q: How secure is the closure and what is the interior layout?
A: It features a zip‑around closure for good everyday security. The interior is lined in brown microfibre and includes one slip pocket for cards or small valuables, with a single main compartment for your essentials. Our listing photos show the exact layout of this item.

Q: What materials is this model made from and how will they age?
A: This PM is crafted from Louis Vuitton’s Monogram coated canvas with natural Vachetta (vegetable‑tanned) leather trim and gold‑tone hardware. The canvas is durable and resistant to light rain, while Vachetta will develop a honey‑coloured patina over time and can show water marks if exposed to moisture—this patina is part of its charm.

Q: Any care tips for the canvas, Vachetta leather and hardware?
A: Wipe coated canvas with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry immediately. Keep Vachetta away from water, oils, hand sanitiser and dark denim to minimise stains and colour transfer; blot (don’t rub) any moisture promptly. Condition smooth leather sparingly with a suitable neutral product after spot‑testing. Store the bag upright, lightly stuffed, in a breathable dust bag, and avoid long‑term hanging by the strap. Protect hardware from friction during storage to reduce hairline scratches.

Q: Where is the date code and what does DU4240 indicate?
A: Authentic Louis Vuitton bags produced before the 2021 microchip transition typically have a date code heat‑stamped inside. The code on this piece, DU4240, indicates French manufacture (DU) in week 44 of 2020. From around 2021 onwards, LV replaced visible date codes with embedded microchips; this 2020 piece therefore correctly bears a date code.

Q: Is the Boîte Chapeau Souple PM still available in boutiques?
A: Louis Vuitton has offered the Boîte Chapeau Souple in various sizes and materials across recent seasons, but boutique availability varies by region and timing. If a specific version isn’t currently in stores, the pre‑loved market is the best way to find it—feel free to contact us for alternatives.

Q: What is included with this listing?
A: This item is sold as stated under “Accessories.” For this specific piece, no additional accessories are included. If you need a dust bag or organiser, let us know and we can suggest options.

Q: How do you authenticate this bag?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale is rigorously vetted by our in‑house experts through multi‑point checks of materials, stitching, hardware, stamps, date code/microchip era and overall construction. We stand behind the authenticity of every piece we sell and are happy to provide additional photos or details on request.
