Q: What typically fits inside the Louis Vuitton Epi Sac d’Épaule GM?
A: With approximate measurements of 34 × 29 × 14 cm, it comfortably holds daily essentials such as a long wallet, smartphone, keys, sunglasses case, cosmetics pouch, a 500 ml water bottle and an 11-inch tablet. Packing efficiency and the tapered opening will influence capacity—please refer to the Measurements on this page for exact dimensions.

Q: Will A4 documents or a 13-inch laptop fit?
A: A4 documents generally fit when placed vertically. A slim 13-inch laptop or notebook may slide in vertically, but the narrow, V-shaped opening can make it a snug fit, especially with a protective sleeve. If carrying a device, we recommend checking your device dimensions against the bag’s measurements and using a thin sleeve.

Q: Is the strap adjustable and can it be worn crossbody?
A: Yes, the single shoulder strap is adjustable by buckle. On this piece the drop is about 36 cm, and similar examples show an adjustable range roughly in the mid‑30s to low‑40s centimetres. It is designed primarily for shoulder carry; most people will find the drop too short for a true crossbody wear.

Q: How does the closure work, and is it secure for city use?
A: The bag has a wrap‑around belt strap with a snap that cinches the top; there is no top zip. When worn under the arm, the structured sides and cinched strap keep contents close to the body. For added privacy and organisation, store valuables in smaller zipped pouches inside the main compartment.

Q: Does this item include the detachable pouch?
A: Yes, this piece comes with a detachable pouch. Everything included with the item is listed under the product information section on this page; if an item isn’t listed there, it is not included.

Q: What is Epi leather and what are its benefits?
A: Epi is Louis Vuitton’s textured, dyed‑through leather with a distinctive wave grain. It is known for being structured, hard‑wearing and relatively resistant to light rain and surface scratches—ideal for everyday use while maintaining a refined look.

Q: How should I care for vintage Epi leather and the microfibre lining?
A: Wipe the exterior occasionally with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry immediately. Avoid harsh cleaners, oils and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or heat. Do not overfill. Store the bag loosely stuffed in a breathable dust bag in a cool, dry place. For the interior, use a clean, soft brush or lint roller to remove debris and keep liquids contained in cosmetic cases to prevent marks.

Q: Where is the date code and what does it mean?
A: On vintage Epi pieces with microfibre linings, the date code is typically stamped directly on the lining along a seam or on a small leather tab. The letters indicate the manufacturing country/factory and the numbers indicate the production period; formats vary by era. Note that a date code alone does not authenticate a bag—genuine items can have faint or hard‑to‑read stamps—and modern LV has moved to microchips for newer models. Every item at A Retro Tale is professionally authenticated before sale.

Q: Is the Sac d’Épaule GM still in production?
A: This style is considered vintage and is not part of Louis Vuitton’s current handbag line. Most examples you’ll find, including this one, were produced in the 1990s and are sourced pre‑loved.
