Q: What are the dimensions of this Louis Vuitton Cotteville 45 Suitcase?
A: This piece measures approximately 45 x 34 x 11.5 cm, with a 5 cm handle drop. It is a slim, structured hard-sided case that works best for folded clothing, travel documents, toiletries, tech essentials, or special items you want protected in transit.

Q: Is the Cotteville 45 suitable as cabin baggage?
A: In many cases, yes. Its dimensions are within the cabin limits used by many full-service airlines, but baggage rules vary by airline, route and ticket type. Because this is a rigid vintage case, we recommend checking your airline’s current allowance before travelling.

Q: Does this suitcase have a shoulder strap?
A: No. This model is designed to be carried by hand and features a single rolled top handle rather than a detachable shoulder strap.

Q: What is included with this item?
A: This suitcase includes a name tag. Everything included is listed in the product information, so if another item such as a key, dust bag or box is not mentioned there, it should not be assumed to be included.

Q: How does the suitcase close?
A: It features a structured S-lock closure with two side latches, giving the case its classic trunk-inspired look and secure hard-sided construction.

Q: What condition is this vintage suitcase in?
A: It is listed in very good vintage condition. The coated canvas has some scuff marks, the leather trim and handle show scuffing and developed patina, the lining has some marks and scuffs, and the hardware is discoloured with scratches and patina.

Q: Is patina on the leather normal?
A: Yes. Louis Vuitton’s natural leather trim is known to darken and develop patina over time. On a vintage piece, this ageing is expected and forms part of the character of the suitcase.

Q: How should I care for this piece?
A: Wipe the coated canvas gently with a soft cloth, avoid harsh cleaners, and keep the case away from prolonged moisture, direct heat and strong sunlight. If the natural leather gets wet, blot it promptly with a light, lint-free cloth and let it dry naturally. Store the suitcase in a dry place and avoid overfilling it so the structure stays crisp.

Q: Is this better for regular travel or for careful occasional use?
A: The Cotteville 45 was designed as a compact hard-sided travel case, but as a vintage piece it is best suited to careful use. It works beautifully for short trips, car travel, stylish storage, or display, especially if you prefer structured vintage luggage over modern wheeled cases.

Q: How do you authenticate vintage Louis Vuitton items?
A: At A Retro Tale, every item is reviewed for details such as materials, construction, hardware, stamps and overall consistency with the model. This helps ensure the piece is authentic and accurately described before it is offered for sale.
