Q: What typically fits inside the Louis Vuitton Monogram President Briefcase?
A: With approximate exterior measurements of 37 × 30 × 6 cm, it is ideal for A4 documents, slim folders, a diary, pens and small tech such as a tablet up to around 11 inches and compact chargers. Internal space is slightly smaller due to the structured build, so please compare your items to the listed measurements.

Q: Will it fit a 13-inch laptop?
A: Most 13-inch laptops are about 30.4 cm wide, so the interior width of this case is likely too tight for a comfortable fit. Slim 11-inch devices are usually a better match—please measure your device carefully before purchase.

Q: Does it come with a shoulder strap or D-rings for one?
A: No. The President is a hard-sided, hand-carried attaché with a single top handle (approx. 5 cm drop) and is not designed for a strap.

Q: How does the combination S-lock work and can I change the code?
A: Many President cases use a three‑digit combination closure. To set or change a code on similar locks: open the lock with the current code, press and hold the small reset button/lever (usually inside the lock body), rotate the dials to your new code, then release to save. Record your code and never force the mechanism. If the case is locked and the code is unknown, consult a Louis Vuitton boutique or a reputable luggage locksmith—do not pry or force the lock.

Q: Does this briefcase use keys?
A: This example uses a combination closure and does not require a key. Some other President variants were produced with an S‑lock operated by a key, but this listing is the combination style.

Q: What materials is it made from and how durable is it?
A: It features Louis Vuitton’s coated Monogram canvas with natural leather trim and gold‑tone hardware. The canvas is hard‑wearing and water‑resistant to light moisture, while the leather handle is sensitive to water and oils and will develop a patina. Gold‑tone hardware can show surface scratches or tarnish over time—normal for vintage pieces.

Q: How should I care for the canvas, leather and hardware?
A: Wipe coated canvas with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry immediately. Avoid alcohol‑based products, solvents and harsh chemicals. Keep the vachetta leather handle away from rain and oils; if it gets wet, blot and let it air dry naturally. For hardware, use only a clean, dry cloth—abrasive polishes can remove the gold‑tone finish. Store the case empty or lightly filled in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight.

Q: Where is the date code and what does it indicate?
A: Many vintage Louis Vuitton pieces (1980s–2000s) have a stamped date code that indicates production period and factory. On hard‑sided cases it may appear on a small leather tab along an interior seam or under a pocket and can be faint with age. Note that newer LV items use embedded microchips instead of visible date codes; date codes are not unique serial numbers.

Q: Is this size suitable to take on a flight as cabin baggage?
A: At approximately 37 × 30 × 6 cm, it generally fits under most airline seats or in overhead bins as a personal item. Allowances vary by carrier and aircraft, so please check your airline’s current rules.

Q: What accessories are included with this listing?
A: This item is listed as no accessories. If an item such as a dust bag, keys or a luggage tag is not listed under Accessories, it is not included. Every item at A Retro Tale is thoroughly authenticated by our in‑house experts before listing.
