Q: What is this necklace made of, and is it solid gold or plated?
A: This vintage Tiffany & Co necklace is crafted in solid 18k yellow gold (not plated). Tiffany gold jewellery is typically made in 18k for its rich colour and durability.

Q: What is the chain length and where will it sit on the neck?
A: The chain measures approximately 41 cm (about 16 inches). This usually sits at the base of the neck or high on the collarbone for most wearers, making it ideal for everyday wear and layering.

Q: Is the length adjustable?
A: This style is usually worn at its original length. If you need extra length, a jeweller can add a small extender or extra jump ring. Altering the original chain itself is not recommended, as it may affect value and integrity.

Q: What clasp does it use and is it secure?
A: It features a spring ring clasp, a classic Tiffany closure. To fasten, press the small lever to open, attach to the ring, then release. As with any fine chain, check the clasp and rings periodically for tightness and wear.

Q: What hallmarks should I expect to see on an 18k Tiffany necklace?
A: Genuine pieces commonly bear the Tiffany & Co signature and a gold purity mark such as 750 (meaning 18k). On necklaces, these are typically found on the pendant back and/or near the clasp tag or jump ring.

Q: Will 18k yellow gold tarnish or discolour my skin?
A: Solid 18k gold is highly resistant to tarnishing and generally should not discolour skin. It can appear dull over time from lotions, perfume, or everyday residue—routine gentle cleaning restores the shine.

Q: How should I clean and care for this necklace?
A: Wipe after wear with a soft, lint-free cloth. For a deeper clean, soak briefly in lukewarm water with a drop of mild soap, brush gently with a very soft brush, rinse, and pat dry. Avoid harsh chemicals, ultrasonic cleaners around delicate chain joints, and store separately to prevent scratches.

Q: Can the ribbon pendant be worn on a different chain?
A: Many ribbon designs pair best with their original fine chain. Whether this pendant can be moved depends on the opening of the pendant’s bail and the thickness of your chain. A professional jeweller can advise without risking scratches to the gold.

Q: What exactly is included with my purchase?
A: Everything included is listed in the product information on this page. If a branded box, pouch, or certificate is not listed there, it is not included with this item.

Q: How does A Retro Tale authenticate Tiffany jewellery?
A: Each piece is examined by our in‑house experts using multi‑point checks of materials, hallmarks, typography, craftsmanship, soldering, chain and clasp construction, and period‑correct details. We stand behind the authenticity of all items we sell and can share additional photos or information on request.
