Q: Is this Van Cleef & Arpels Lucky Hearts Mother of Pearl Necklace authentic?
A: Yes. Every item at A Retro Tale is rigorously vetted by our in‑house experts and sold with our authenticity commitment. Shop with confidence.

Q: What is it made from? Is it solid gold and is the mother‑of‑pearl genuine?
A: Van Cleef & Arpels fine jewellery is typically crafted in 18‑carat gold; this piece features rose‑gold hardware with a heart‑shaped mother‑of‑pearl pendant and signature beaded detailing. The mother‑of‑pearl inlay is natural shell. Please review the close‑up photos and contact us if you’d like us to confirm the exact hallmarks on this necklace.

Q: What are the measurements and how will it sit when worn?
A: The chain perimeter is approximately 42 cm, designed to sit around the base of the neck/collarbone on most wearers. The pendant is listed at about 1.2 cm (height) x 1.5 cm (width) x 0.2 cm (depth). It fastens with a lobster clasp. If you’d like the precise drop length or gram weight, just ask and we’ll measure it for you.

Q: What hallmarks or stamps should I expect on a Van Cleef & Arpels necklace?
A: Authentic VCA necklaces typically carry the maker’s mark (Van Cleef & Arpels or VCA), a gold fineness mark such as “750” for 18‑carat gold, and an individual serial number, often positioned near the clasp or on a small tag. Our listing images show any stamps present on this piece.

Q: How should I care for mother‑of‑pearl and rose‑gold jewellery?
A: Keep it dry and away from perfume, lotions, sunscreen, hairspray and cleaning chemicals. After wear, wipe gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Do not soak, use ultrasonic cleaners or chemical dips. Store it individually in its box or a soft pouch to prevent scratches and preserve the lustre of the mother‑of‑pearl and the finish of the gold.

Q: Can I wear it in the shower, pool or sea?
A: We recommend removing mother‑of‑pearl jewellery before bathing, swimming or exercising. Prolonged moisture, heat and chemicals can dull the surface and may affect the integrity of organic stones like mother‑of‑pearl. Dry it promptly if it is accidentally splashed.

Q: Is it suitable for sensitive skin? Is it nickel‑free?
A: Fine jewellery alloys may contain trace metals. 18‑carat rose‑gold is usually alloyed primarily with copper; nickel is uncommon but sensitivities vary. If you have metal allergies, monitor comfort, avoid prolonged moisture contact, and discontinue wear if irritation occurs. We’re happy to advise further if needed.

Q: Can the chain length be adjusted or an extender be added?
A: The fixed chain is approximately 42 cm and not adjustable as standard, but a competent jeweller can add a short extender or replace the clasp for minor length changes. Van Cleef & Arpels boutiques may offer service at their discretion for vintage pieces. Any alteration can affect originality and resale value—ask us for reputable specialists if needed.

Q: Can Van Cleef & Arpels polish or service this necklace?
A: Boutiques and specialist workshops may offer cleaning, stone checks and light polishing. Avoid aggressive polishing near the mother‑of‑pearl. We don’t perform in‑house modifications but can recommend trusted professionals on request.

Q: What condition should I expect, what is included, and can I return it?
A: This necklace is in Very Good Condition with light signs of careful wear possible unless noted otherwise. This listing includes a box; only accessories specifically shown or listed are included. Returns are accepted under our standard policy—please see our Returns page for eligibility, timeframes and conditions, and ensure the item is returned in the same condition received.
