Q: What fits inside the Chanel Classic Medium Double Flap?
A: The Medium is designed for daily essentials rather than bulk. It comfortably carries a large smartphone, a compact wallet or cardholder, keys, lipstick and slim sunglasses in a soft sleeve. Due to the double‑flap construction, full‑length (continental) wallets and small tablets are usually a tight fit. For this exact piece we measured approximately 26 × 16 × 7 cm—please refer to the Measurements on this page for the precise figures.

Q: Is the chain strap adjustable? Can I wear it crossbody?
A: The chain is not adjustable. It can be worn doubled for a shorter shoulder carry or as a single chain for shoulder or high crossbody wear. On the Medium, the drop is about 24 cm when doubled and roughly 42 cm when single (as listed for this piece). Most wearers find the Medium sits high when worn crossbody.

Q: How secure is the double‑flap closure and what are the benefits?
A: You have the iconic CC turn‑lock on the outer flap and an inner flap with a snap closure. The second flap helps the bag keep its structure, adds organisation and offers day‑to‑day security for smaller valuables.

Q: What is the typical interior layout of the Medium Double Flap?
A: Interiors vary slightly by era, but you’ll usually find a main compartment, a front slip pocket under the flap, a lipstick slot, an interior slip pocket, a zipped pocket on the underside of the outer flap (often nicknamed the “love‑letter” pocket), plus an exterior back slip pocket.

Q: Is the gold hardware 24‑carat gold‑plated?
A: Chanel used 24K gold‑plated hardware widely on earlier vintage bags; around late 2008 the brand moved to gold‑tone finishes without precious‑metal plating. This piece carries a 14‑series serial sticker (early 2010s), so its gold‑tone hardware is from the post‑plating era.

Q: How should I care for lambskin leather and the hardware?
A: Keep the bag away from moisture, oils and prolonged sunlight, and be mindful of colour transfer from dark denim. Gently wipe with a soft, dry cloth; avoid harsh cleaners or heavy conditioning. Store upright in a breathable pouch, lightly stuffed to maintain shape. Tuck the chain inside and pad it with felt or soft tissue to prevent pressure marks on the leather.

Q: Will the chain leave marks on the leather during storage?
A: Chain imprints can occur if the strap presses against the leather. To minimise marks, tuck the chain inside the bag and place a soft cloth or felt between the chain and leather. Store the bag upright with light stuffing and avoid overloading.

Q: Where are the brand markings and codes, and how is dating handled?
A: Authentic Chanel flaps feature interior brand stamps and—on pieces produced before 2021—an interior serial sticker paired with an authenticity card. From 2021 onward, Chanel introduced embedded microchips attached to a small interior plate instead of stickers/cards. A 14‑series sticker generally places this bag in the early 2010s.

Q: Is the Medium Classic now called the “11.12”, and is it the same bag?
A: Yes. Chanel often refers to the Medium Classic Flap by its historical style code A01112, and many boutiques and editors call the line the “11.12”. It’s the same silhouette, offered in seasonal leathers, colours and hardware variations.

Q: Can Chanel service or repair the Classic Flap?
A: Chanel offers care and repair services via its boutiques, subject to assessment and parts availability; lead times and costs vary by region. Independent luxury leather specialists can also assist with cleaning and restoration if preferred.

Q: What accessories are included with this item and how is authenticity guaranteed?
A: Included items are listed under “Accessories”. For this exact piece, we note a serial number tag; if an authenticity card or box is not listed there, it is not included. Every item at A Retro Tale undergoes rigorous multi‑point authentication by our in‑house experts, reviewing materials, stitching, hardware, stamps, serial sticker/microchip format and overall construction—we stand behind the authenticity of all items we sell.
