Q: What typically fits inside this Chanel Classic Mini Flap?
A: With approximate measurements of 14 × 10 × 4 cm, this vintage Mini is very compact. It’s ideal for small essentials: a cardholder, keys, lipstick, AirPods and a slim key pouch. Most modern smartphones are unlikely to fit comfortably; if capacity is crucial, please compare your device to our Measurements or ask us for a tailored fit check for this exact piece.

Q: Is the chain strap adjustable, and can I wear it crossbody?
A: The interwoven leather‑and‑chain strap is not adjustable. This piece has an approximate single‑chain drop of 54 cm, which works for shoulder wear and a high crossbody on some frames. We’re happy to advise on how it will sit based on your height and preferred styling.

Q: Is the Mini a single or double flap?
A: Chanel Classic Mini Flaps are typically single‑flap designs (unlike the Small/Medium/Jumbo/Maxi classics, which feature a double flap). The single flap makes the Mini lighter with slightly easier access.

Q: How secure is the closure, and what’s the interior layout?
A: The bag closes with the iconic CC turn‑lock. Interiors on vintage Minis are usually straightforward: a main compartment with one slip pocket, plus the back exterior slip pocket for quick‑access items. Please see our photos for the exact configuration of this piece.

Q: How should I care for the lambskin and preserve the shape?
A: Keep the leather away from prolonged moisture and direct sunlight, and wipe with a soft cloth—avoid harsh products that could alter the finish. For smooth lambskin, gently buff minor surface marks in a circular motion. Store the bag upright, lightly stuffed, in a breathable dust bag, and tuck the chain inside with soft tissue or felt to prevent imprints.

Q: Will the chain leave marks on the leather during storage?
A: It can. To minimise press marks, wrap or tuck the chain inside the bag and avoid resting it on the flap. Proper storage (upright, lightly padded, away from humidity) helps keep quilting smooth and prevents chain imprints.

Q: What does the serial number 1761216 indicate?
A: A 7‑digit code beginning with “1” typically dates a Chanel bag to approximately 1989–1991. Early stickers from this era were paired with authenticity cards at the time; cards are often separated over decades, so we list any included accessories on this page.

Q: Is the hardware 24K gold‑plated on vintage pieces?
A: Many Chanel bags produced in the late ’80s and ’90s feature 24K gold‑plated hardware, which gives a rich, warm tone. Exact plating can vary by era and piece; based on its serial, this item is from a period when 24K plating was commonly used. We can provide close‑ups of the hardware on request.

Q: Are Minis still produced, and how do the square and rectangular versions differ?
A: Chanel releases Mini Flaps seasonally, with availability and colours varying by collection. The rectangular Mini typically has a slightly longer strap drop and a slimmer profile; the square Mini is boxier with a marginally shorter drop. The pre‑loved market is the best source for specific sizes and eras.

Q: What accessories are included with this item, and how do you authenticate?
A: For this listing we include the serial number tag as noted under “Accessories.” If an accessory (e.g., dust bag, box, authenticity card for older pieces) is not listed there, it is not included—feel free to contact us to confirm. Every item at A Retro Tale undergoes rigorous, multi‑point authentication by our in‑house experts, including checks of materials, stitching, hardware, stamps and serial sticker where applicable; we stand behind the authenticity of every piece we sell.
