Q: What typically fits inside the Classic Mini Rectangular Single Flap?
A: Based on the exterior measurements of approximately 18 × 11 × 7 cm, it comfortably carries small essentials such as a compact smartphone (up to around 15–15.5 cm length), cardholder or small wallet, keys, lipstick and AirPods. Larger phones like the iPhone Pro Max are usually too long for this 18 cm vintage version and may not fit unless placed very carefully without a case. Capacity depends on how you pack—please refer to the Measurements on this page for exact dimensions.

Q: Can I wear it crossbody, and what is the strap drop?
A: Yes. This piece has an approximate 47 cm strap drop, so on many figures it sits around the high hip or waist when worn crossbody. Note that strap lengths can vary by season; many minis are around 56–58 cm, so this one will sit a bit higher than those. The chain is not designed to be adjustable or removable; if you shorten it inside the flap, avoid tight knots that might imprint the leather.

Q: Is this a single flap or double flap, and does that affect space?
A: It is a single flap. Single flaps are lighter and offer slightly more usable space than a double flap of similar size, making them practical for daily compact essentials while retaining the classic silhouette.

Q: Will my smartphone fit inside?
A: Most standard-sized smartphones fit when placed horizontally; larger phones (Pro Max sizes) are often too long for this 18 cm vintage version. If you use a thick case or add a full-size wallet, space will be limited. For certainty, compare your phone’s length to the bag’s 18 cm width and allow a little clearance for the interior lining and side gussets.

Q: What does the serial number 8672497 indicate?
A: This is an 8‑series, 7‑digit Chanel code that dates the bag to approximately 2003–2004. The bag includes an authenticity card and interior serial number tag as listed under Accessories.

Q: Is the hardware real gold?
A: Chanel bags produced prior to the late 2008 transition typically featured 24‑karat gold‑plated hardware. Given this bag’s 8‑series production window (2003–2004), the gold-tone hardware is from that era and gentle patina or surface scratches are normal with wear, as noted in the condition report.

Q: How does the Mini Rectangular compare with the Mini Square or a Wallet on Chain (WOC)?
A: The Mini Rectangular is longer and slimmer than the Mini Square and typically has a longer strap drop, which many find better for crossbody. It also holds more than a WOC, which is essentially a slim wallet with a chain. If you prioritise crossbody comfort and a bit more capacity, the Mini Rectangular is usually the most versatile of the three.

Q: Does it have a back pocket and how should I use it?
A: Yes, there is a rear slip pocket. It is best for slim items such as travel or contactless cards and receipts. Avoid overstuffing to maintain the bag’s shape.

Q: How should I care for the lambskin leather and whipstitch trim?
A: Keep the bag lightly stuffed and stored upright in a breathable dust bag, away from direct heat and sunlight. Avoid rain and colour transfer from dark denim. Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth after use; use a high-quality leather conditioner sparingly and never on hardware. Do not overfill to minimise creasing and corner wear.

Q: How do you authenticate this item?
A: Every piece at A Retro Tale undergoes rigorous, multi‑point checks of materials, stitching, hardware, stamps and serials by our in‑house experts. We stand behind the authenticity of all items we sell and can provide additional photos or details on request.
